Really Confused

I've read so many posts about golf cart vs no golf cart my head is spinning! . We're on a tight schedule (only 5 days) I thought it would be in our best interest to get the cart even though the cost is outrageous!! We're bringing our teenage neices (14&17) and think it will cut down the whine factor significantly. However, we plan on spending a most of our time at the parks. I've reserved it just in case, but I just don't know if it's worth the $$$. HELP!!!

That is how I still feel. I vascillate between getting one and feeling it reallu isn't necessary. I think what we are going to do is bring our bikes and maybe rent a golf cart one day just to ride it around the campground. Then again, maybe not if we find our bikes are good enough. I think the cost is ridiculous.

I think bringing your own bikes is a great idea. If we weren't flying in from Denver I would do it in a heart beat! I looked into the cost of our family of 4 renting bikes for the 4+ days and I almost fell off my chair! Looks like as long as you bring locks for the bikes you'll be fine.

We've stayed at FW three times and never have used a cart. We have never had a problem getting around. The internal busses are not as bad as some would lead you to believe. Spend the money on something else.

I would love to spend the $$ on other things. From what I have read the carts are simply "expensive fun". My question is if we have such a limited amount of time, wouldn't it be to our advantage to have a cart?? I hate to think of our golf cart as well as our rental car just sitting there for the most part. I'm just trying to make the most of our little time. This will be our first time staying on Disney property. First time @ Old Town hotel, second @ a rental home. Both had it's issues with transportation.

Onsite transportation is far superior to offsite shuttles. The way it works in FW is there are two main sites for transportation to the various parks. The Pioneer Hall area has the marina for MK boat and a main bus stop for park busses. The other main bus stop is at the entrance to the resort. Depending where your site is, you just hop on an internal bus which takes you to the main stops where you then get on the correct park transportation. It may sound difficult, but it is not. Since you will only be there 5 days, I would not worry with a cart. As far as the rental car goes, we drive to WDW. I park my car when we first get there and it doesn't move til we leave. You will love the convenience of being onsite.

If you are planning on spending most of the time in the parks and basically just crashing at FW I wouldn't bother. If you are planning on using alot of the FW stuff, like the pools, depending on where you are staying having a golf cart does make things more convienent HOWEVER the busing system is easy to use. We have half of our group at the lodge and spend half the time using the campground and don't want to wait for a bus so we are bringing ours down next March. Last time we were there, it felt like an endless walk from the bus drop off or the boat drop off to the motor home after a long day in the parks. The kids were also cold and tired after swimming and the wait for the bus and the bus ride was not to fun. It all depends on your plans.

I think if we were staying at a campsite I would definately go without the cart. But since we're staying in a cabin, which look so far from the north end of the resort, I guess we'll go ahead and suck up the expense of a cart. I'll be sure to post a report on what I thought of my decision. I keep telling myself that we're saving a fortune by eating at "home" except for the night at Hoop-Dee-Do, but 50 bucks a day for a golf cart??!! YIKES! I guess it's not so much the money, it's just the feeling of being ripped off. . Oh well, let the magic begin

If you are staying at the cabins..with a 14 and 17 year old...do yourself a favor...get the Golf Cart. It will make your life a whole lot easier. In my opinion..having stayed in the cabin loops..I would not do without one anyway. Not to say you "can't"...but it makes the campground amenities much easier to get to. Given the "whine" factor..if you can afford it..go for it. You will be happy you did. Also..it is dicounted if you are renting it for the week...not a whole lot but it's something.

Thanks! I guess it's all part of budgeting. DH and I got a great deal on the cabin, so I try to pretend (in the disney mode) it's just part of the cost of the cabin! Now I just need to pretend it's 79.0 degrees 35% humidity and all is perfect

When you crawl off that boat late at night after walking a hundred miles in the parks all day the last thing you want to do is wait for a bus or have to walk to your campsite.

Our last trip we had one. DD rented it for us as a birthday gift. First trip we took our bikes. Would I pay the 400 dollars? Probably not, but glad we had it. DD was in a cabin with 6 and we were tenting with 6.

I would also suggest if you have the extra $$ to get the golf cart. We found it to be really nice and the kids really do enjoy it.

Thanks to all of you fellow mouser's for responding to the newbee. Well, I don't know about the $$. All I know is it's way too much!! I know that DH and I went to Sydney, Austrailia for less than this trip to Orlando, Fl. Don't get me wrong, we're so excited to go! But more important is taking our 2 nieces who have never been anywhere, and are all Disney all the time! We just want to show them the best time possible within our budget. Thanks for all your help

If your 17 year old has a license just be prepared for the two teenagers to be cruising A LOT! That may or may not be a bad thing, depending upon the responsibility level of the teens. I just wanted to warn you.....

However if you have a rental car, drive to resorts other than the MK. We've been at FW numerous times and have never rented a golf cart. One DS even walked all the way from the Marina and arrived at the 2100 cabin same time as we did. We've walked from Marina to 1500 loop because we wanted to and it's not terrible. The internal transpo is not that bad!
