Looks like I may have to cancel my DL trip later this month. My washer just broke and we're gonna need a new one. Looks like a big chunk of my vacation money will have to go to that. I'm still hoping that I'll magically be able to pull off the trip but with the cost of gas and such (we'd be driving from AZ), I don't know.

:sad1:

I'm so with you and feeling your pain! Our August trip is cancelled because I got into a car accident last week and the vacation money is going to fix my car. At least you have someone to be sad with you!:sad2:

Don't give up. Check out all your options with the washer, maybe you can buy a used one in great condition. Check craigs and other listings, people are always buying stat of the art washers and driers and suddently have to move and just need to sell at a crazy price.

I feel you , last week our air went out, I prayed it would not be terrible and the repair was just $85.00 and the guy was so nice he checked out our downstairs unit too and did some preventative maintenance too! Good luck!

Check craigslist.org. I purchased my dryer(like new) after my other one died, it was only 70-. You can find great deals there!
Good luck!!

Is this the only vacation you take all year? Or is this one of many trips.

I wouldn't cancel my only vacation. I think the idea of finding a used washer is a great one. I got my "set" at a garage sale for $70 and that was over 10 years ago. they are still chugging away!

Thank you all for the positive words! I haven't cancelled anything...yet.

I forgot all about craigslist. I'll check there now.

Thanks and keep your fingers crossed. This will be our only vacation of the year. The last time we took a family vacation was 2 years ago, the last time we went to DL.

Craig's list........ I wish I had known of your need. I just sold a dryer for $75. and a washer/dryer for $125. each.. Please check there....

I would rather buy a used one off craigs list. (my DH buys and sells all the time on craigs list:headache: ) Even if it only lasted for awhile and keep my trip to DL.:cool1:

Good luck with your search for the washer :goodvibes

I too live in AZ and we just got back from an Anniversary weekend trip a couple weeks ago, it's not a bad drive. I live in the PHX area and it is about 5 1/2 - 6 hours with a stop along the way to eat and get gas. :goodvibes

are you getting a "govt rebate check" or what ever they are calling it. if you are and it's not paying for the trip that may help. you could also put the machine on a 0% interest credit card(for 6 months) and then save for 5 months and pay off the card so you don't get pentalized for it.

Here's what I would do! Go to HomeDepot or Lowes and see if they have any deals with no payments and interest for a year. That's what we did when ours went out. That way it didn't take any of our vacation money I had saved, and I had plenty of time to save up and pay it off before I had to pay a nickle in interest! Just an idea!

That's what we did. We got our new washer/dryer 2 days before we left for DL in 2006. it was a laundry frenzy, as we hadn't done any for, like, 4 days! But the point is, we got the new machines, payed no interest, and made a few payments here and there until we could pay it off before the year was up. Worked out perfect.:thumbsup2

Good luck with your search...I'm sure you can find something so you don't have to cancel.

hi there, our washer went in january and we decided to were going to replace the set... we went through sears and did the option with no interest and equal payments(the way we buy everything big-no touching our savings)...the good news is, our hydro bill went way down so in a way we are saving some money(our water bill should also go down as we bought a front loader) :cool1: ...if it was me, i would try everything NOT to cancel...

I agree with the other ladies as far as trying to do the no interest thing....I did this same thaing back in Jan when my Dryer died and it was 6 months intrest free from Home Depot. So I have just been paying $50 a payday {twice a month} and it will be paid off when we leave for our trip to Disney in July. Hope you can still make your trip and I feel you with the gas! We will be driving from WA 'cause DH doesn't fly!

Wow...so much discussion about washer and dryers!

You can tell how much time we all spend doing laundry :laundy:

I had a really nice front loading washer that we paid almost $1000 for. After the 1 year warranty was over, it died on me. :headache:

I was so mad and did not want to spend that kind of money again. We went to Lowes and bought a cheapie Whirlpool for less than $250. Four years later it actually works better and holds more clothes than the other one.

Go figure :worship:

I have to confess - my DW does 98% of the laundry. I'm a baaaaaaad DH.:sad2:

UPDATE: We've decided to take option 1: Call a repair person. I have someone coming out tomorrow when DH is home from work to give us an estimate. If it's not going to be cost effective and/or not repairable, we'll go with option 2/3: Craigslist or Lowes.

My tickets arrived today so now I'm really NOT wanting to cancel!

Keep your fingers crossed that it isn't too bad. Plus that I can get it fixed so I can do some laundry!!!
