Really BAD GAD Experience!

Lets not forget that the people they are serving meals to might have had their most recent meal out of a garbage can...

yes, maybe they got their last meal from a garbage can BUT they are getting a meal from a homeless shelter and they deserve the right to be served with diginity and respect and safe food! I hope the shelter gets report and someone comes in and brings it up to code

Just because you're without a place to live....it doesn't mean you should be treated like trash. I'm upset that someone would even say that these people got their last meal from a garbage can. Have you met homeless people? Some are just down on their luck....they aren't drug addicted, garbage trolling box people like the movies portray. Many people out there today are just a couple of paychecks shy of being homeless!

Wow--I can see being upset about your experience...

But I'd also be upset at the serious health code violations. I'd report them. A soup kitchen that is unsanitary isn't doing the homeless any favors.

There's no excuse, regardless of where these people may have had their last meal.:sad2:

I would look at this as an opportunity greater than the GAD program. You are in a opportunity to make a change to something for the better. You were right to leave the situation, but now you can help to inform the right people to improve the shelter. No one deserves to be served food in an environment like that. You have seen it first hand and can make a difference.
Contact the necessary people as others have suggested. Then follow up to make sure that something has been done.

This is so sad and frustrating! Sometimes I feel like we as a nation try and do the right thing and send our $ everywhere and lend our support everywhere but ignore what is in our own area's. :sad1:
I am sorry to hear you all experienced those deplorable, unacceptable conditions. And you're right, it was not safe for you or anyone for that matter. If you did not tell them why you left, consider calling to alert them that you were very saddened and concerned by the conditions and you'd like to know what they are doing to correct it. Should you call the health dept, I don't know what you think about that....I do know that I would have to do something as it is not acceptable and as someone already said, Homeless is NOT hopeless....Lives can change! A very sad situation:sad1::sad1:

You would be so surprised how much we pay for and how many people just don't' care or don't bother. Don't assume that its for lack of funding. Many times its just lack of values on the part of management.

Sorry to hear about that. What a horrible situation. I am glad that you got to see, and are therefore reporting it. It may have continued to operate in horrific conditions for much longer if it wasn't brought to light. Please keep us updated- the people here have made some good suggestions.

Although they are homeless, they do not deserve to eat unsanitary food from a soup kitchen, of all places. They should be able to rely on them to serve clean food, at the very least.
