Really awful dog grooming

I get my corgi groomed pretty regularly. At this time of year it's important because he shed so much. I have always taken him to pet smart. He hates it and the whole thing is really stressful to him. I decided this time to try a mobile groomer. I told her what i wanted was to shave some off of the butt and back legs, clean up under the belly where the fur hits the ground, cut nails, brush out all the loose undercoat and a very light run over with the shaver to even out the top coat and help to remove a bit more of the loose fur. We get this done all of the time. It never looks drastic. He looks exactly the same only cleaned up and neatened. This woman did not get all of his nails because he hates getting his nails done. I understand, I know he's difficult. But if he's in the leash and muzzled it can be done. But I'd let that go because I know how he is. The big thing is she shaved him practically to the skin almost everywhere. He looks ridiculous. He has a bit of a mohawk down the center of his back where it's longer and on his lower legs it's longer. Around his neck is a giant ridge where the thick fur on his head stands out. On top of it all corgis need that triple coat for heat regulation and sunburn protection. If it is shaved it can grow in causing ingrown hairs. I just kept staring at him. I paid but now I sure wish I hadn't. I'm going to call her and the head of her franchise. Any thoughts?

Pictures please.

I would be livid as well, and would let some one know that the employees cannot follow directions. I know they have tight quarters in those van/trucks, but was there any way to watch over the process or did you just let her go to town on the poor dog?

Sorry to hear that they should listen to the owner as stop being lazy and just shaving them. My dog a barbet which is supposed to have long hair took him and when we picked him and saw he was shaved I was pissed. She charged over 120 to do it I said if I wanted him shaved I could do it for less. The problem I have is had a not that many groomer know how to or what a barbet looks like so I bring pictures and everything but still they don't listen. So I went back to my groomer that dose my other dog and now he just gets A trim and bath. And they now not to cut him or shave him they take the time to comb out the knots even though I comb him a lot but his hair is curly as is and he over 65 pounds and dose not like getting combed. Plus he has big paws and now how to punch you lol. My mother keeps saying she going to have to drive him to Buffalo where she mows another barbet and get him groomed with her groomer.

She is an owner operator. Lots of positive reviews. I didn't watch. My dog hates the groomers. I never watch unless he can't see me because that makes it harder on him. I am feeling pretty guilty about the whole thing. It's just that he is 21/2 years old and has had many groomings often with a different groomer and they have never done anything like this. It never occurred to me that somebody would do something like this. I'm not super picky. He's not a show dog. I just want to lessen the shedding, have him clean and not have his butt fur get in the way of business or his belly fur drag through the sand when he's on the beach. I called my vet. It should be pretty common knowledge that this isn't appropriate for this breed of dog. It's going to take a long time to grow back and he'll have to wear sunscreen and we will have to monitor him in the heat. Very nice woman who loves animals and meant well. She just doesn't have the right knowledge level.

OK I save the pics to my computer. Now how do I put them on here?

You have to upload them to a photo sharing website like Imgur or Photobucket and use the URL.

I am admittedly not great with directions.

Was her name ellen by chance? I had used that groomer up in NJ once and while she's very nice.... She didn't seem to understand what I asked for and just seemed to do the fastest thing. The idea of a mobile service was worth it, the quality was lacking with the grooming. Uneven, wrong cut, face was still very wet. This was years ago.

I'd call her and let her know how unhappy you are..........and post on yelp.

I would actually just call her, avoid yelp for now and see if it can be resolved next time by a free grooming, a discount this time or bring photos of what you want done next time(if you give her another chance) Personally, I get so tired to Yelp and people giving places one star when they haven't even spoken to a manager to see if the situation is fixable. Then if she refuses to resolve things or make you happy then go to yelp.

I tried talking to her. She defended the decision. She says when she came to pick him up my son was there and she asked him of he wanted him shaved and he said the whole package. I spoke to the other mobile groomer who said most groomers do not want to shave any dog. If it is requested they will tell the owner why it is a bad idea and recommend alternatives. They rarely would shave a corgi or dog with similar coats even if requested because they k ow it is bad for the dog. She says this might grow in uneven and patchy.
Anybody who works with animals knows it is bad to shave a triple coat dog. That fur is there for a reason.

I would be so upset!! And I completely understand!

We have a Keeshond, & he has a double layer of fur too w/ a thick "ruff". In addition to needing his coat to stay warm/cool (depending on the season), if his fur is shaved, it won't grow back the right way.

OP I know exactly what you were looking for. We take our corgi in to get "neatened up" several times a year as well. I'm a pretty laid back person, but if she came back shaved, I would be furious!

I can see this from both ways. The groomer asked your son and it sounded like he agreed to a full shave. Instead of saying "no shaving" when she asked. Instead he said full package which I guess would make sense in why she did it(Since it doesn't seem like he ever said no when she asked about shaving). Many people shave these double or triple(?) coated dogs against advice. I've seen vet techs explaining to people in front of me that hair might not come back. But having a shaved dog makes sense for some families, i guess. I guess most groomers try to follow what they think that person wants even if its against what they think should be done.

But I'm the one who hired her. I told her what I wanted done and never said shaved. She also never initiated a conversation with him like are you sure? Shaving isn't good for this dog. If you think a person is requesting something not right for a dog and that could harm him you say something. She kept insisting that shaving isn't bad. She said there are two schools of thought on that. I am very upset. Not only is it shaved. It's a choppy mess. I don't ever want another haircut from this woman. I really didn't want to post a negative review. But the more I look at him the more upset I get. He was a beautiful dog. If his fur doesn't grow back in right I will have no recourse. I am trying to find the main franchise corporate number and cannot.

It looks even worst today. Whenever I look at him I get very upset. When I look it up it seems it will take a very long time to grow out and may grow in all uneven and the coats may not come In properly. Very angry about this and yet you can't fix it.

How old is your ds? If it had been my child, the answer would have been, lets call my mother and see exactly what she wants. There is probably no way your ds knew what the 'full package' was!!
In any case, no dog should ever be shaved unless there is a good reason for it. Geez, the poor thing is going to burn if he is outside for more than 2 mins.

I would be sure that the groomer knows that you are very unhappy, and that you won't be using her again, and why.
We had one groomer for our golden who had always done a good job. She was associated with the trainer that we used. Well, when this woman cut his nails too short? The dog bled all over my car!!! When we got home, into the house, I noticed blood spurting from his foot!!! Two nails were bleeding horribly! I called the groomer immediately. Her response? Make a paste of potato flour and water, put it on his nails and it would stop bleeding eventually!!! Um, not many people have potato flour sitting around. We took him to the vet, who gave him a shot of antibiotic right away, bandaged the paw and said he would see the dog again in a week. And we had to give him antibiotics every day for two weeks!!!! The vet was horrified to see what had happened to our poor pup!!! We never went back to that groomer again. And sadly? She never even called us to see how the dog was.

My son is 22yo and has taken this dog for several of his grooming appointments. He has never seen this done and it never occurred to him that any groomer would think to do this. My dog has healthy, shiny fur with no knots. He is also not a long haired corgi. Why would I want him shaved.
I have spoken to several groomers and my vet who all agree that even if requested a groomer would not shave a corgi without good reason. Their triple coat is needed for protection from heat, cold and sun. Also when shaved it often does not grow back in properly. They are at high risk for ingrown hairs while it is growing in.
This shaving is not completely down to the skin. She claims to have used a blade two longer then a complete shave. She is not answering the phone now or returning my calls. I would like my money back. I am seriously considering filing a complaint with the better business bureau. My dog was a beautiful tri-color welsh pembroke corgi. I just wanted to clean him up and get the under coat that is falling out brushed out really well.

Next time you choose to try a new groomer always be there for the first visit. When I've switched I always make sure to be the one to drop off and see the groomer. Especially the mobile groomer because its hardly ever the same girl. They probably tend to follow instructions for whomever drops off or gives them the dog. I think if a groomer refused to do a dogs haircut in a certain way people would run to yelp and complain." I want my dog shaved" "NO!" Um yes.....its what I want.

One of my dogs is a double coated dog and I've had him shaved. His beautiful coat has always grown back and hopefully so will yours. Both vets I use have said its ok and common to shave in the past. They just don't recommend the shortest length. Mine gets two lengths longer than the shave. Sounds like what you got too. At least it wasn't the really naked shave. I've been having it done for 13/14 years and its twice a year along with a bath every 5 weeks. Always grows back nicely and his hair is maybe 3-4 inches fully grown out.

Even my long haired cat gets shaved(The shortest they can go) and I know plenty of other people who get dogs/cats shaved. The only person I know that it didn't grow out right is because the dog had a thyroid issue that caused hair to not grow back and just fall out.
