I realize that at this point in time there is no way to truly answer this question but I thought it might be an interesting discussion to see peoples opinions on when Disneyland might get back to normal operations or whatever "New normal" might be. I obviously have no special insight into this but thought it might be interesting to hear what others think.

Unprecedented situations like this will probably usher in a new standard in operational procedure in the short term such as limiting park capacity, virtual queues for more rides, no parades or fireworks and I was reading that there might be temperature taking for quests as they go through bag check. The numbers of people that go to Disneyland on a daily basis are much larger then most sporting events and it is looking like none of the major sports leagues are going to be starting/resuming any earlier then July in a best case scenario. I also don't think that a truly normal Disney experience will happen until after a working vaccine is found and readily available to the masses, which realistically doesn't seem possible till middle of 2021.

I think they may be able to open (perhaps I am hoping) by the end of the year, but, by then, cold and flu season will be upon us. Once Disney works out logistics, next summer will have our new normal.

I really think they are going to stick with the June 1 opening but things are NOT going to be business as usual at the parks.

They will find a way to open, though.

Considering Disney parks in Shanghai and HK have been closed for a little over 2 months already and have no announced plans to open any time soon, I seriously doubt DL or WDW will be able to open by June 1.

I think the fact that they are taking reservations for hotel stays starting June 1 is the key point. Especially for WDW, they would not do this if there was a chance they wouldn't be opening the parks at that time.

Also, Disney does not make the decision about Shanghai or HK parks opening. That's on the Chinese government.

They might.

Certainly a topic we are all thinking about.
The thing I’ve been thinking about is what changes/limitations am willing to
Go with and what would be “too much”

let me be clear, we 100% need to do what we need to do to keep people safe.

what I mean is I have limited vacaction funds and if it becomes clear that waiting a year would give a better experience we will wait a year. Our trip is in October.

They might.

Bob Iger also was recently interviewed and he said they are working towards June in a best case scenario, August in a worst case scenario. Unless something turns in a dramatically bad direction in the next month, I'm confident in the June opening. That is still almost 2 months away at this point. California, in particular, is showing evidence of curve flattening because we jumped into social distancing early on and most people are being compliant. I cam see Disneyland definitely opening in June. Maybe not WDW due to the lax government response in FL.

Oh wow. That's interesting. Do you know where I can see this interview?

The problem with this is although California is doing the right thing, other states are not. Unless they limit visitors to California residents only, we would have to wait until everyone is out of the woods.

I can be wrong as easily as you are. I am aware that Disney has little, if any, say over when the Asian parks can reopen (I know Disney has a stake in the Shanghai park, but not sure about HK). I was just trying to point out that venues such as theme parks that tend to draw out big crowds have a large mountain to climb to reopen. If major sports leagues in the US don't get the green light to pack stadiums/arenas, I doubt reopening theme parks would be looked upon favorably.

I don’t think limiting visitors to California residents only, at least initially, is off the table. I’m not saying they would, but to say that definitely wouldn’t happen isn’t 💯 either.

One thing I wish they would do is install proper hand washing stations outside of rides like Buzz and Smugglers Run, where you are actively participating in the ride, touching things thousands of people have touched. And these hand washing stations need to be equipped with warm water. At a minimum, they should have hand sanitizer stations outside most, if not all rides. When we went in early March my girls of course wanted to ride Smugglers Run.... I was sanitizing their hands before we even walked out of the cockpit, and made a beeline for the bathrooms to wash hands, with me yelling “DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE” repeatedly. I went through like three small bottles of sanitizer that day, and we had multiple bathroom stops just to wash hands. It would be nice to have hand washing stations more readily available, especially outside of the rides where you have to touch everything.

I would think they can't consider opening until the peak really has hit, till hospitals are clear and community transmissions are no longer occurring. I think Halloween is doubtful, but I'd love to be wrong.

Yes I have been grossed out for years by ride elements that are heavily handled. The worst offender to me is TSMM. Those little half circle handles get squishy, sticky, and sweaty. Yuck. It is one reason I try to ride that first thing in the morning.

I’m sure Disney would love to open by June, Fall or anytime this year. Unless there’s a vaccine or a cure, it will come back, probably worse, if things open back up before those are in place 😢

Oh yeah TSMM is gross. We wouldn’t even ride it in early March. 🤢

Disney will open this summer. It’s just going to look like a different Disney with new rules, regulations, and procedures. I’m hopefully for June 1st but no doubt- July 4th they will be open.

It will be upon people and their comfortability rate with the virus on whether they go. I’ve read so many posts and opinions on these boards. I usually keep my opinion quiet. But when I hear that people think Disney closed in September and October - no way. Orlando will be fully running July 4th. Too much money for their local economy.
