I was in the center lane. Knowing me, I was doing 70-75 mph & suddenly all I could see was the hood of the car. It covered all but about an inch at the bottom of the windshield. My first impulse was to slam on the brakes - not good on an interstate. I was able to look through the bottom, watch the lane markers & stay within my lane. Fortunately there was no one in the right lane & I was able to get onto the should right away. (Luckily the shoulder had been plowed during our recent snowstorm. ) I was calm up until that point. Once the immediate crisis had passed, I physcially could not bring myself to get out of the car for a couple of minutes. I just sat there amazed that I had gotten through those 30 seconds without injuring or killing myself or anyone else. The force broke the windshield & bent the hood to the point that I could not latch it. Normally there are half a dozen bungee cords in our cars. Not this time. All I had was a shoelace to tie the hood down. Luckily my exit was only about 1 mile. I drove the shoulder at 20 mph & made it the additional 6 miles home without further incident.
Your experience today makes my day seem like a bed of roses!
