"real" life views at SSR?

Hi,

How do I put this? I feel like a snob but when I am at WDW I don't like to see outside areas (roads/cars etc./and areas outside WDW) from my hotel room. I know that SSR is far from complete. Three questions:

1) How is it now? Are there any areas where you don't see the "DD area" hotels?

2) What is your opinion on the future plans for landscaping and barriers to outside areas?

3) Which DVC resort (at WDW) has the least chance of seeing the "outside" world? VWL?

I couldn't see any outside road etc from our windows at SSR unless you count DTD, but mostly just landscaping a quiet pool. It seemed really away from everything and peaceful and reminded me of Dixie Landings maybe??

There are many rooms at SSR where you can see other hotels beside DDT and many more rooms where you can not, we were in CP and could see other places that did not belong to Disney, but the average person would never know whats Disney and whats not, just all us Disney nuts.lol

When SSR was the old DI I don't remember seeing anything of the outside world except for one spectacular night launch of the space shuttle. Now I suspect if you have a water view you are fine.

Agree that VWL is the most secluded and private DVC resort. But at WDW overall I think AKL would also rank up there for privacy.

You will be able to view some of the non Disney World from your parking areas and roadways, but most all patios and balconies face inward and will overlook lakes, canals, pools, and Downtown Disney and the lake in front of it. There will be few that have some view especially higher up.

I would agree WVL is very secluded as OKW. Personally I consider the Swan and Dolphin to be about the most unattractive hotels to look at, so the DD hotels would not bother me.

I find the S/D unattractive because they are so different from the BW and BC/YC. It would have been nice if the architecture could have been contiuned around the lake.

Hey.....I got lucky too with viewing a night launch of the shuttle. We were on a boat at the BW and some families were laughing because they were only transfixed for a mere moment b/c they said, "Disney has spoiled us!!".

I was mesmerized with the shuttle. But I understand what they were saying because I say that every single time I see a non-Disney fireworks show.

Thanks for all the responses. I now know what to expect. I don't think the DD hotels are ugly. I've stayed at Hotel Royal Plaza. I just want to feel like I am away from reality. And I like to be away from cars especially. I know some people love the convenience of parking your car at your unit at OKW. I don't want to see mine.

I think the planners at DW should be given awards for the ability to take you away. I usually stay at one of the All Stars and the shrubs around the mechanical units make me smile. They really go out of their way to make things peaceful. It amazes me.

I would think that VWL, BWV and OKW would be the best options in this area. While BWV has parking lot views, they are hard wired for reservations so you could avoid them easily. VWL is the only one where I think every unit is likely to be isolated but then you have the dumpster view, LOL. OKW sill have a few buildings close to the road. BCV and SSR will both have a significant portion of rooms you can see the things you don't want to see though none should be an eyesore or present a problem.

The bottom line is that all of the resorts should present a relaxing atmosphere. But they are all different. I think BWV and VWL immerse you the most in things Disney followed by BCV. But SSR and OKW should be more laid back and relaxing. It depends on what appeals to you which might be different than others.

Okw use to be completely inside woods. Now it is not. there is a big difference to me for the feeling.

I still love OKW - but it will take around 5 to 10 years for the woods to be back. The South has a bunch of wild trees that will grow given the opportunity. Since OKW is not putting over stuff in these areas - I would think these trees to be growing shortly.

I stayed in SSR for a week in May. It was nice!!! I loved my view of DD. I think I might have seem the top of the HH in the distance.

love the fireworks (what 60 seconds???) every night.

I have stayed at SSR twice, first view was DTD which I loved. Second was a lake. I don't really recall seeing any "non Disney" but I saw a LOT of construction which I didn't like. (However, by now that view would be fine...)

On the other hand (where every cloud has a silver lining), I think the hurricanes actually helped at VWL. That resort was really closed in. It use to be that most of the views were nothing but very heavy thick woods. Now that they've been thinned out by Mother Nature, many of the views have changed enough that you can see through some of the trees and see the lake in the distance.

I agree about OKW. The interior sections of the resort are fine, but down in the Miller's road area I noticed it's not as sheltered from the outside roadways as it once was.

The one thing that I don't like about Disney is how so much of the wilderness of the resort has been cleared through the years. Remember driving from US 192 to the MK in the late 70's?? There was nothing BUT wilderness. It was fabulous. Even DTD in the years when it was only the Marketplace and the Empress Lilly. So quiet and peaceful. Disney has lost some of that magic for in their quest for over building and crowds. I wish they would set their resorts farther off the roads so that they could maintain that wilderness feel. You felt like you were miles away from the world and truly surrounded by MAGIC! Don't get me wrong... I LOVE WDW... but there was another WDW that first drew me to Orlando.

About SSR. Most of the trees that they have planted are very large. It will be no time before they grow further and fill in. We did not feel that the other hotels were "peering" down on us. Really didn't notice them.
