'Real' conversations with CM's

These are the few I remember from our trip this past week:

1) When going through the turnstiles at Epcot, somebody (maybe it was my BF, don't remember) asked the CM overseeing one how she was doing and I heard her reply, "Living the dream--somebody else's..."

2) We did the Jungle Cruise, which is pretty dull in my opinion. Luckily, our guide was loaded with awesomely bad puns the entire trip which just delighted me. As we got held up waiting for boats in front of us to unload, she started chatting with us and telling the kids to make sure they get an education and then they, too, can work at WDW and drive a boat around in circles all day. And that her parents were proud of her...sister.

I couldn't tell if this was in character or not, but it struck me as more of the latter since it was such sarcastic humor. I got such a kick out of her conversation; she really made the ride for me.

3) During EMH one night at Epcot, we had run out of things to do. We'd already been to Epcot like 3 times by this point and were giving in and doing attractions we otherwise avoided; we went to see the Circle of Life video in the Land pavilion. When we walked in, there was one other family who walked out shortly after we sat down. My BF asked if she was in the college program (he had been in it in 2001) and she chatted briefly about where she was from and how it was kind of boring in her position as they only rotated between that attraction and the front since Living with the Land was down. Before letting us in, she mentioned that this was usually when she gave the whole spiel about the rules and whatnot and would in the theater, but probably wouldn't since it was just us.

Not sure if you've seen this or not, but it's definatley worth watching:

This is the closest thing to a out of character experience I can remember my family having, loving these stories...

A couple of years ago, DH, DS, and I were at MK for 1 day, we finally decided to wait in line for 1 hour to see Mickey and Minnie in Toontown. It turned out to be the best pic of us, surprising after being in the park for 12 hours. My DH was laughing as we left, said Minnie kept squeezing his arm muscles and giggling while we were taking the pic. I still give him a hard time about Minnie hitting on him:)

This happened at DL, but we were on the raft to Tom Sawyer Island, riding along with Jack Sparrow. Captain Jack was talking to my dd, 4 at the time. He called her princess and asked "do you know who my favorite princess is? Jasmine. If you see Jasmine, tell her I said hi and that's she's my favorite princess, OK?" It was very cute, and in character as far as my dd was concerned -- I mean, they all live at Disney, so they must know each other, right?

But the sweetest thing was that I think he really meant it -- like Jasmine was his girlfriend or something. :goodvibes

Sounds to me like you DON'T find the jungle cruise that dull, because the ride is not really about the plastic animals and the boat ride, but about the CM jokes. All that stuff above, I've heard before from CM's on the Jungle Cruise ride. That's what makes the ride so great :)

:rotfl: So true! My kids love the plastic animals, but I could listen to the corny jokes all day!

We were at Disneyland last year when my son was 2 1/2 and were having dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. Dale was at our table when my son poured a bowl of spaghetti on his head. My daughter (age 8) exclaimed "HE'S PSGHETTI MAN!" and Dale actually burst out laughing! Precious (if messy) memory.

Actually in my case they didn't break character but they still managed to express how they really felt.

We were having dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern a few years ago and I was telling Chip and Dale how much I loved their delicious smelling float and couldn't wait to see them again in the parade.

They looked really sad then they took a napkin and wrote the following:

"Goofy took our float. We walk."

Some of the characters were out signing autographs when they announced they were taking a short break. It was an incredibly short break since they came right back out. Without event thinking I said "Oh, they are changing the actors."

Goofy wagged a finger at me.

Those jokes aren't part of the approved script, but they're used by quite a few CMs -- especially as end-of-the-cruise time filler. Here's how I heard them:
Now, there's something you don't see every day, folks... but I do. Every 15 minutes, every day, for the rest of my life. Kids, stay in school. Oh, I'm kidding; I have a degree. So kids, stay in school, go to college for four years and you, too, can drive a boat in a circle all day long. Yeah, my parents are really proud... of my sister. She's a doctor. I tried to be a doctor but I didn't have the patience (patients).

When we went to Hollywood Studios a few days ago, my husband was wearing his shirt of the Folksmen (from the Christopher Guest movie "A Mighty Wind"). Not one but TWO different random Citizens of Hollywood commented on it and sang/hummed parts of their songs. It was great!

i've had quite a few!

when i was 15 on my first trip Pluto literally picked me up and carried me around a resturant at MK (im not sure what the resturant was!) I dont think that would happen now!

on a past trip that i took with my best friend we had many male cms chat us up and let us go threw back door enterances for the rides! it was actually pretty cool esp on space mountain and RnR.

when we met aladin jasmine and genie at epcot, genie seemed to really have a thing for me... like almost to the point where it was creepy! lol he insisted i stand beside him and kept hugging me... to the point where aladin had to tell genie to calm himself down lol the pics are funny i look a little creeped out :rotfl:

also on that trip at the princess lunch in norway Aroura commented she really liked my necklace and asked me where i got it from lol

and when dbf and i met aladin and jasmine this past august in epcot I told aladin how DBF had stolen his moves and sang a whole new world to me on our first date. Jasmine just looked at DBF and was like "really?" and kinda gave him a dreamy look! lol :rotfl: it was funny. she was probably around our age and we figured since she plays jasmine at disney world she probably thought a guy singing a whole new world on a first date was a catch haha.

the same jasmine went to grab dbf's arm after to take a pic and he was kinda awkward with her (it was his first trip to disney.. he was kinda weird with the face characters haha) and she was like its okay im not trying to steal your money just grab your arm! :confused3 lol it was kinda strange but funny!

i think its kinda funny. i mean you cant be on ALL the time!

Once on the last trip of the day for Kali River Rapids the CM got on the raft with us. She pointed out how one crocodile on the up ramp at the beginning of the ride on the left had his snout broken off when they were practicing evacuation moves. She also showed us how once when we pass the waterfall, look back at it and we will see a lion. (At least I think its a lion. This was a few years ago and I have forgottten.)

During the parade at MVMCP this year there was a guy who was standing beside my kids videotaping the parade and he kept calling out and waving to cm's in the parade by name. The cm's in the parade were coming over and sticking their tongues at him or dancing in front of him or pointing him out to other cast members in the parade. After the parade I talked to him and he said he was a cast member on his day off. My kids thought it was great because they thought everyone was paying attention to them and didn't realize it was the guy beside them that was getting all the attention :rotfl2:

Few years back my husband and our two friends rode the front of the monorail and the monorail "pilot" who was a women chatted with us. We were going to Epcot I believe from T&TT. We asked her how long she had been with the Monorail and she said 10 years...and then proceeded to tell us how it sucked and she couldn't wait to retire so she could go and be a greeter at WAL-Mart! She was miserable and really hated her job. It really threw us for a loop!

I know that CM. She is precisely like that in real life, but it's also her character on the ride. Such perfect casting....

Last May we were eating at 1900 Park Fair and the stepmother was chatting with us in character, when DH said he was in the Marines, she asked if he had been to Iraq, then she said she had a close friend who was deployed right now, and thanked him for serving...

A girl who worked as a maid at one of the resorts was in line at the Royal Anandapur Tea company at Animal Kingdom, and while she waited for her food, she complained to the CM behind the counter about another maid getting fired for getting injured on the job or something.

I thought it was really unprofessional.

The CM working the counter tried to not really participate in the conversation, and I could tell he was uncomfortable listening to this lady complain.
