'Real' conversations with CM's

One time I was walking on the 1st floor of the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian and this Cast Member asks me if I was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan because I was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs hat. Well I obviously say yes

Sorry about your luck. :p GO CBJs! ;)

One time I was walking on the 1st floor of the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian and this Cast Member asks me if I was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan because I was wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs hat. Well I obviously say yes and he then goes onto say how he was a fan of the New Jersery Devils, so we talked for 10 minutes just about Hockey and it was great because the Hockey coverage in certin areas of the United States and in Florida is not the best, so it was almost like I was back home with other Hockey fans.

Were you traveling in the hockey off-season? I guess for the Leafs that would be any time between April 1 and October 1.

:)

Go Canes.

(And yes, hockey coverage is weak down here. Versus is terrible. Either need satellite hockey package to watch Don Cherry or you have to rely on your local Fox Sports affiliate for the local club.)

My smarty pants dh has to ask every single time he sees Max (Goofy's son), who is your mother? Every.single.time. Max always just does this :confused3.

We were at a character breakfast and Stitch heard dh ask Max. He took a crayon and wrote on the place mat, "he's adopted".

So now we know and he can stop asking! :rotfl:

When we see people from Maryland we usually go up and ask what part.
This one Security Officer was from Baltimore and knew a family friend of ours:rotfl:

I have had countless characters remember me.

A friend had told me that at Teppan Edo their cook had placed onions in the shape of a Mickey head then proceded to cut them...then yelled DON'T TELL ANYONE, HE IS MY BOSS....XD

These stories are great. Keep them coming!

50 degree nights in November?! We'd wear shorts :lmao:

Hahah...we were wearing shorts, flip flops and short sleeve shirts. One of the CMs stopped us and said "Aren't you absolutely freeeeeeeeezing??". When we returned I drove home in a snow storm with 6 inches of snow on the ground and it was about 20 degrees. Yay Wisconsin.

Then he was telling us that one year Depp was at a princess and pirate party and was dressed as Jack Sparrow, and everyone just thought it was a CM. Don't know if that's true or not but thats what he told us.
I've heard that from a lot of CMs, but I can definitely confirm that it's not true (I know the CM who portrayed CJS that evening).

Great stories! I can't remember having a character break character but I did have a nice chat with a cashier at the Pop Century gift shop. We had just arrived and she was asking about our plans and I said DD was most excited to do the Akershus breakfast the next day. She said that at certain times of year the CMs can purchase the ddp. One of those times was coming up and she was very excited to try Akershus for the first time. I just thought it was cool to see a CM excited about doing something in the world. It was nice to know that it's still magical for them too.

We were in JellyRolls one night and saw the CM from our Akershus dinner that sat us earlier in the evening. We bought him along with his buddies a round of drinks. They pulled a table up next to ours and treated us like one of their friends from home. The night was great and they had some amazing stories (about Disney and home). We checked in this past trip but unfortunately our buddy went back to Norway. It was a night unlike any other though :rotfl2:

We were celebrating our DD 3rd birthday at 1900 Park Fare for dinner. We ordered a special Cinderella cake and had plenty of left over. Lady Tremaine came over for pics and looked to be eyeing the cake. So I offered her a piece, and with a straight face she said "I still have to fit in this costume tomorrow night, and if I eat that, there is no way I will be able to wear it." My wife and I just about lost it.

On our last trip DS was asleep when we got to the front of the line to meet Snow White. She commented that she liked little men who were sleepy :lmao: and then mentioned how peaceful DS looked. She said that her little one was like that too. She never came out and said "My child" but it sounded like she was talking about her children. It was sweet.

She may have been referring to the seven dwarves when she was talking about her little ones lol (specifically sleepy).. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Not sure I would consider this a conversation with a CM. But while in AK last month my son (9) stopped to get a picture and autograph with a Meeko. My son said that he heard the person burp. :lmao:

I thought of 2 more:

1) Not a big one, but I was admiring a Sports resort CMs watch, and he leans in confidentially and said "Thanks, I went crazy at DHS yesterday!" LOL

2) One of the CMs at the Oyster/Pearl part of Japan opened one with a really big pearl and said (just the letters) "OMG! .....I learn that this morning!"
We were all rolling. :rotfl:

Well this is kinda of sad but we were at EPCOT on sept 5th waiting for the Illuminations to begin. This castmember was asking us and the people around us disney trivia questions. It was alot of fun but then we started talking about New Years Eve and she was telling me to be in Epcot because they have the best firework show. I was tellling her that I use to work for one of the Disney Stores and how one day I would love to retire and work for the Disney Parks. She wanted to know why I didn't just come down to keep my time and I explained to her that I have been battling breast cancer. Well then she started in such a sad voice telling me that last week on a tuesday her husband had just been told he has cancer and she was told on wednesday that she had breast cancer. So we talked about it for some time and I kept telling her she will be just fine and she can do this. We then agreed to meet up next summer for a breast cancer reunion. I can't wait to see her again and my heart and prayers go out to her and her husband.

when i was seated at the crystal palace the CM who sat me started complaining about another female CM's bad breath LOL :rotfl:

I live in Canada.. You should have seen the faces when we were swimming in January!

My parents are DVC members, with the Beach Club as their home resort.

They really look forward to talking with Art, the gentleman who dresses as a sea captain and greets everyone with a salute as they walk in the hotel. (I think Art was even featured in one of Samantha Brown's Disney specials on teh Travel Channel.)

Anyway, one day, Art wasn't "on duty," so my Mom asked a manager where he was. The manager told her he was out sick. The next day, Art was back. As he and my Mom talked, Art revealed that he was just diagnosed with cancer. He seemed to be his usual upbeat self, but it's just a good lesson to remember that everyone, including Disney CMs, is fighting his or her own battles, so be extra nice.

(My parents, wife, kids, and I are going back to the BC in 9 days, so you can bet our first order of business will be to chat with Art.)

When we were at Epcot in 08, we ran into some college kids that we off shift for the day and drinking their way around the world. one of them worked at a resort, one on Splash Mountain and one was actually a Prince Charming!! We talked to them for a while in Japan and them saw them again in France. they were toasty by then! They also convinced me that I should try out for Snow White, as Disney was holding auditions that week. They def made the trip more interesting.

On the flip side of this topic... I love my job and talking to guests but I often get asked personal questions such as "how much do you get paid??" I usually just smile and say I work here because it's the greatest job in the world. :hippie:
