'Real' conversations with CM's

I was taking pictures of my 2 dd in front of city hall and we found Belle. I must have called her the wrong name and my daughters made fun of me for not knowing the characters. Then Belle chimmed in and said don't you know who I am! I then had to reply back to Belle and said that I missed the new story/sequel. Belle looked confused and said what new story. I said the one where you got married. She looked real emabarrased, hid her hand behind her back, and said don't tell anyone! Belle forgot to take off her wedding and engagement rings when she got into character.

I was at the Catwalk Bar (RIP), having an adult libation, and struck up a quick conversation with the waitress about the guy by the railing, who was teasing customers down in the Canteen with a laser pointer.

It was frankly hilarious how the kids would react, and follow the dot until it just disappeared, then they'd roam about looking for it until it magically reappeared.

The waitress sighed, and mentioned how she missed her son during the days while she worked. That led to the usual questions, and she laid out most of her life story, about the young man she had married, who left her when the kid arrived, and now she was struggling working at MGM and another full-time job just to make ends meet.

That was when I learned that cast members are real people...

I just got back and was in the line to buy my food at Everything Pop when the CM preceded to tell me how she was from Queens, and have moved to Florida a few years ago. I was just thinking 'oh, that's nice'. Then she started in on how the city had gone to crap and how she absolutely hates it there. Nice way to make the magic, lady.

I love these stories!

Well, I have had a few instances where a CM has broken out of character. When I was a teenager we lived in Southern Cali and went to DL ALL the time. I mean once a month at least. Anyway, so a few times a male CM has given me his phone number when there weren't a lot of other guests around (and I wasn't with my parents haha). Always made my day! lol

Me, too! I grew up in W. Garden Grove, and we'd go to DL often. In fact, I'm still in So. Cal. (inland though), and we're going on Tuesday for my daughter's 19th birthday.

Back on thread topic: I've had 2 experiences when CMs broke character. Once, when my daughter was almost 3, we were coming back into DL from making a trip to the car for jackets. Chip was walking under the train bridge all by himself. He stopped to wave and cuddle the toddlers in the double stroller, and when he stood upright again, said, "They're sooooo cute!" through his fuzzy head.

The other time was in Toontown, at Goofy's Bounce House. My daughter was now about 11, and she wanted to say hi to Goofy. There he was, greeting a long line of visitors. We waited our turn, and when we approached, he put his lanky arms out for a hug....not from my daughter, but from me! I obliged and hugged him back. After an unusually lengthy hug (longer than a normal hug), I started to pull away. That was when he growled at me! It wasn't a mean growl...it was more of a wolf-whistle, "hubba hubba" type of growl! Goofy, that sexy beast! lol

That's pretty funny and a very quick observation on your part! :thumbsup2

One late and rainy night at MK, my sister and I got in the last boat of the night on Jungle Cruise. It was just us and a group of 5 college age guys. Well, they talked this CM working the dock into coming with us and giving us the "adult" version of the ride. Well, when we passed the dancing natives, she said, "Do you know one says I love Disco." We didn't believe her so she backed up the ride so we could hear it. She had to go back a ways to trip the sensor. Let me tell you, those boats go SLOW in reverse. But, we heard it- I love Disco! It was totally unforgettable!

I think the Goofy costume gives them license to be a 'dog'.
I call it the "Goofy Gropes".

I have documented photographic evidence of 3 separate Goofy Grope incidences on 3 separate years of vacations.
1. Goofy ran out of CM when I was outside of the restaurant and threw his leg around me while holding me and rubbing up against me (I couldn't even see him I had tears in my eyes so badly).

2. He grabbed me at a meet and greet and started smooching me.

3. He got me at another meet and greet and when I smooched him back he 'swooned' and then fell on the ground doing CLAPPING push ups.

So, maybe groping goofy IS in character??..lol

Does anyone remember the first couple years of Pleasure Island and the Comedy club? They used to joke about how CMs are REAL people and when they leave work after being 'happy' all day they go home and cuss and spit and kick the dog.

It was hysterical.

Not that he was a character, but it was a slow night when we dined at Boatwright's in POR once; and our server felt the need to let us know just how much he hated his job, the high cost of living in Orlando, his long drive to work, the heavy traffic, etc., etc. Whew!

One of our bus drivers on the way back to WL did the same thing. Only not so much.

This July I was on the Great American Movie ride and my 7yo dd and I got to sit up front with the CM. She was in the role of the gangster and was trying to "scare" my dd and my 9 yo dd who was behind us but they were having none of it! Then she asked where we were from - I said NJ and she started mocking NJ and how she was from NY and it was soooo much better there blah blah blah. All this while the ride was going on! Of course my hubby had to later comment that I always find someone to talk to wherever I go!

We also had a bus driver on the way home from MK and his tape broke so he had to tell us that there is no eating drinking or smoking on the bus, but if you bought a $12 turkey leg then go right ahead and eat it! He was really funny! We also had a great bus driver on ME going to the airport tell us how we should all have no reason not to come back to WDW and money is no object how we should just call out sick and come to disney! That was great also! Of course he worked for Mears....:rotfl:

Last Nov we were eating at 50's Prime Time and the waitress was not in character at all...It kind of ruined the experience for us. She was talking to us about how her children's bus was late getting home from school and which meal she has them share...then was talking about the shuttle launch that was going to take place that night...she was very sweet and the meal sharing part was helpful but its not what you expect when eating there

On the funnier side when I was 18 I got asked out by the CM working the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride...LOL

One year, I went with three girlfriends from work. They commented that I knew so much about the place and I was so outgoing, they imagined that I would retire there.

When we went through check-in, they commented I would make a great person for the front desk to get people started on their trip. When we were in the lounge, they said I would make a great bartender, since I eat out so much and sit at the bar where I do to get to know people. When we took the Backlot tour and saw the costuming dept., they thought I would be perfect for that too, since I love to sew.

Well the day we were in MK, we were waiting for the afternoon parade and a lady in a Victorian costume came down the street for the pre-entertainment. I love sewing and costumes, and such. She was greeting everyone and shaking hands and taking pics with people, and my friend said, "that's it, that is what you would be perfect for." The woman overheard me and said (still in character), "sorry sister, there is only room for one of us in this town." We laughed, and she leaned forward and winked at me, and said, "no really, there is only room for one of us, I just landed this gig a week ago!"

I think we had the same DME driver. Ours said the exact same thing. Either that or they are trained to make us come back over and over and over and over and...

I wonder if that was the same year we went, lol. Was there some ocean effect snow over night and a lot of rides shut down due to cold? We are from WI, so it wasn't a big deal to us, but it sure did suck since we went to get away from freezing :)

I just wanted to say hello "neighbor"!! I went down there in November one year and we got 50 degree nights. People wondered why we weren't bundled up. Hahaha

We have a son and daughter who are 17 months apart. When they were little we got asked quite often if they were twins. When they were approximately 5 and 6 years old we were in Disney getting autographs and photos with Mickey. Mickey turned to another page in the autograph book and wrote "twins?" and we explained that no they weren't! :goodvibes
