It is Florida, and if a big enough puddle stays long enough, a gator is bound to find it.
We live only a few hours from Disney and see them all the time in ponds, drainage canals, lakes, etc. They really don't pose any threat unless you are foolish enough to jump in the water and wrestle it. My DS8 and I go fishing all the time and are sometimes within 20 feet of alligators, and some of them are over 8 feet long. They completely mind their business and just swim right on past. Momma alligators have been known to get aggressive when it is egg laying time, but once again, only if you get in the water and get close to the nest. Good point to know is that it is against Florida and National laws to molest and/or feed alligators. Best thing is to observe from afar, take pictures, tell it that it is cute
and all will be well.
