Real ALLIGATORS at Magic Kingdom?

It is Florida, and if a big enough puddle stays long enough, a gator is bound to find it.;) We live only a few hours from Disney and see them all the time in ponds, drainage canals, lakes, etc. They really don't pose any threat unless you are foolish enough to jump in the water and wrestle it. My DS8 and I go fishing all the time and are sometimes within 20 feet of alligators, and some of them are over 8 feet long. They completely mind their business and just swim right on past. Momma alligators have been known to get aggressive when it is egg laying time, but once again, only if you get in the water and get close to the nest. Good point to know is that it is against Florida and National laws to molest and/or feed alligators. Best thing is to observe from afar, take pictures, tell it that it is cute :rotfl2: and all will be well.

I can't say for certain, but I was on the ride not too long ago. I heard the person sitting in the seat behind me say, "We're gonna need a bigger boat". When I turned around to look at who said that, they were already gone. All that was left were some bubbles rising to the surface of the water.

Good luck on the ride. I hope you make it.

I really needed that laugh! Thanks.

On our last 2 trips I've seen a gator in the small pond along the walkway at the Shades Of Green resort. I don't consider my trip complete unless I see a gator. I'm always looking for them.

How far do they stray from water? One PP mentioned one being in her work parking lot.

Also how do they get into the MK? I thought it was all walled off/fenced?

We have seen 2 around the same area on 2 different trips. They were about 4 feet long...just swimming along minding their own business. :)

I WILL never give up my ride on Splash, I was kidding.....I like your too! Splash is my favorite ride in the parks.

Hello, everyone. Just returned from a week at DW and I was shocked to see an alligator in the Magic Kingdom Park. We rode the Liberty Riverboat that goes around Tom Sawyer Island and about 2/3 into the trip, in the water was an honest to goodness REAL alligator. We were at the front of the boat, on the top deck. The people next to me saw it also. It was swimming along the edge of the water. It was not a fake or animatronic one, it was 100% real!!! It was about 4 feet long...not full grown. Does Disney monitor for this? Is this common? Do they know and are not concerned? Are there others? Couldn't this be dangerous? Very interesting indeed!

Just "stay out of the lakes"!

Everytime I see a bird, squirrel any living creature (yes, even some humans) I always say "look, an audio-animatronic". For some reason I always get some kind of childish glee from it!

-they only stray from water certain times of the year. Usually a male looking for a mate.

-Its not a matter of "getting in" to WDW. They have always been there. MK is full of lakes, swamps, drainage pipes, etc. There are hundreds if not thousands throughout disneys property.

To give you an idea how docile these things are. A woman was bit by one in Pinellas county(St. pete, Clearwater) a few weeks ago, now keep in mind Pinellas county has a population over 1 million and an alligator population in the thousands and this was the first reported attack in 3 years. The lady got a bite on her leg. In other words an attack is outrageously rare. Lightning will strike you at WDW long before an alligator attacks you.

With a park hopper, of course. ;)
