Now that Verizon is offering IPhone I think I am going to take the plunge but can't make up my mind.

I Phone versus Droid - which is better and why?

This is a huge jump for me - I currently have an LG env2 with no data plan so all I do is text, talk and take bad pictures:rotfl:

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!

I have an iPhone and DH has a Droid. Personally, I prefer the iPhone. There are more apps that I use on my iPhone than are offered for the Driod. I'm all about the apps for myself and my DD since I use them when I'm bored or waiting.

I went from the same phone as you to the droid and I love it. I'm not a big techie so I only have a few apps that I use. Not much help but......:thumbsup2

Thanks for posting this, OP... I am a verizon customer too and I have an EnV Touch... I hate the camera although they told me it was "the best camera a phone can have".. NOT! And the internet is a joke. Sketchy use at best!

I've also been considering the i phone or the droid.. I'm up for the auto renewal next summer but sometimes they allow you to act sooner. I heard this is the last time we can do the every 2 year auto upgrade so I'm even considering switching companies:(

I went from the enV2 to the Droid Incredible last summer. I like the Droid, but hate the battery life. I think the iPhone has a better battery. Also, my Droid is constantly turning off for no reason. I am considering going with an iPhone, but can't justify the cost right now since I have only had my Droid for about 8 months. If I had the choice now, I would pick the iPhone.

You sound like me..i have and env2 - not even a texting plan.

We do have the family plan - 4 phones i think 700 minutes - my inlaws each have a phone w/us which they pay for. So i've been wanting the iphone for so long - just trying to justify the cost.

Wondering how much more it will cost me...can i just add it to my family plan?

I posted about this same thing too. Here's what I decided. I currently have the iphone3G through ATT. I'm switching to Verizon on Jan. 30 and getting a DroidX. I've read favorable reviews about it. If I don't like it, then I have 14 days to switch to another phone - and I'll get the iphone4 from Verizon.

It depends what you mean by low battery life. I have to charge my iphone daily - at least twice a day, if not a couple times a day - because I often use the internet. I read that some guy had to charge his phone every 1-1/2 or 2 days and he thought that was low battery! That's not alot to me. I keep a charger in my car so I can charge it on the go. If you use the phone just for calls it will last longer. If you start going on the internet, you will lose battery life faster. It is not a phone issue as much as it is a usage issue.

The DroidX can do exactly what the iphone does - if not more! As an iphone owner, I'll let you know what I think of the DroidX once I get it and play around with it.

p.s. You can get a refurbished DroidX online for $99 which is covered under the same warranty as a new one. The iphone4 will be $199 or $299 based on the amount of storage (GB) you get. You get more storage with the DroidX vs. the iphone4.

If anyone has had a bad experience with the DroidX, please let me know, because right now the DroidX is looking like the better phone for me. There is also an app so you can easily and simply move your music from itunes to the DroidX using a "drag n' drop" method.

I'm subbing because this is my deal right now. I AM eligible for the early upgrade and this will be our last new every 2 deal......sucks! Because of that we might switch companies after our 2 years are up but we have problems getting reception in our house and Verizon works the best. Anyway, I can get the iPhone 4 next month when it is released....I'm seriously considering it!! The rest of the family can't upgrade until July tho and since I've never done an "early upgrade" I'm not sure how it works, can we upgrade theirs in July still? What's the best data plan? So many things to consider. :)
I have the ENV3 with no data plan right now......

I'm in the same situation except I have a blackeberry and I HATE IT. I want the iphone - DH is trying to talk me into a droid - he keeps forwarding the articles about the pitfalls of the iphone with verizon....

I LOVE my Droid X! There are so many apps in the droid market that compare to the iphone apps, but ours are FREE! The screen is bigger, and it is loaded with swipe for texting and typing. My battery life is better than my brothers iphone. Good luck with whatever phone you choose-just remember to read and learn everything about your phone. I've had my droid x since July and learn something new all the time.

iPhone. I've had an Android phone for the past year, and own an iTouch and have used others' iPhones. At the time, I was able to save money on the monthly bills by going with the Android phone, but it was a "second best" choice. I've regretted it for many months now.

Without a doubt, the iPhone is the superior device. The OS just works; IMHO Android has been buggy- apps constantly freeze/shut down, and the phone itself is SO slow- it takes 20-30 seconds to switch to the phone screen to place a call, etc. I'm dumping the Android phone as soon as I can and heading for the iPhone.

Joining in this thread because its also our current situation! Amazing how many of us are doing the same thing!

Just heard Verizon isn't doing the *free phone (by rebate) every two years* thing now :( :( :(

We're not able to change until March. Anyone know the cost difference between the droid and iPhone?

What type of Android phone do you have?

I am in the same situation and have started a couple of threads on this topic.
I was due for an upgrade last August and have been holding off in the hopes of Verizon gettting the iPhone. I called Verizon customer service and my New Every Two credit will expire on July 16th...so those of you who are eligible for a credit, find out when it expires. I am going to be getting the iPhone next month...my biggest dilemma was if I should wait for a possible new phone in the Spring, but since my credit expires in July (cutting it close) I am getting the iPhone 4 in Feb. so I can use my credit. I did go to my local AT&T store & Verizon store last night to check out the iPhone, Droid X, Incredible, and Droid Pro. I didn't like the Droid phones at all, but of course loved the iPhone. Also, since I have the iPod Touch 1st Generation and 4th generation, I have a ton of Apps already and am familiar with the OS and user interface and just LOVE it. And since I have the 32gb Touch I am getting the 16gb phone - it will mostly be used for the phone, but can't wait to have the data plan!!!

For the person with the problem of the Verizon phone just shutting off automatically at random times - I finally found out what the problem is! It is because you have too much on the phone. If your memory is almost full the phone will shut down. If you clean out your old messages and pictures you don't want you will fix the problem. I always had this problem until finally we complained to the right rep and she knew what the problem was. I even have an extra memory chip in the phone for photos. Good Luck!

I am looking to upgrade from the EnV Touch to the IPhone - I think the apps alone are worth it, I didn't like the droid and always wanted a blackberry but the screen was always so small.

I have the iphone4 through AT&T and I love it! We actually switched from T-mobile to AT&T two years ago so I could get the iphone specifically.

I am 24 and have been though a ton of cell phones, usually a new one every year. I have had a sidekick through tmobile, blackberry through Sprint, and countless other phones. The iphone4 is the first phone I have loved even after owning it for awhile.

I did have the iphone3 and wasn't as happy with that version. The phone itself seemed to run very slow and take a lot of time to have things, even apps who don't use the internet. However I have had the Iphone4 since November and not had any complaints.

The camera is awesome, takes pictures just as good as my regular camera. I have had prints printed and you can't tell the difference between the iphone and the camera. Although as you zoom in the quality does seem to get worse.

I have heard very good things about Droid but have the impression it is more for people who are more technical than I am. My five year old knows how to work the iphone to get to her apps. I haven't tried the face time, but I have taken and sent videos that have also turned out well.

As far as battery goes, I think it's quite good. I have three email accounts that are "checked on" every 5 minutes, and have Skype constantly running in the background. Skype does seem to drain the battery quickly however that is understandable seeing how it rings and vibrates every time a message comes in.

Hmm, we have two Droid 2 phones and don't have those issues with them. Perhaps your phone is a lemon. The only app I have trouble getting to open is Pandora and I have the same problem with that app on my ITouch.
