It seems like I have caught the add-on-itis!
So, please express your opionions!
We have a 200 point contract with SSR, March use year. I want to get a small add-on contract of about 50 - 75 points. If we buy from Disney, the points would go to our "master contract", so we would have one contract for 250 or 275 points, correct? However, if we buy re-sale, I would have a "master" and "add-on" contract, right?
It seems like the cost would be the pretty close to the same (Disney's costs vs. lower points plus closing costs). However, I thinking it would be better for re-sale value (if we every DO re-sell) to have the 2 contracts instead of one.
Opinions, please!

we did an addon to our original through resale with TTS and got a price much better than our original pre-opening price through disney. this included closing costs. I've seen resale contracts on TTS for like $82 - $83, last year we paid $78. I would definitely look at the resale market, put in a call to TTS and tell them what you are looking for, some small contracts sell without ever being listed. I'm not sure if disney would keep your add-on as a seperate contract for resale purposes, but i think that a smaller contract will definitely sell better if you ever needed to sell one. good luck

We have a total of 175 points all purchased from DVC in two transactions. The original purchase was for 150 and has an account number ending in ".0" and the 25pt add-on is a separate account number ending in ".1".

While we considered the resale avenue, the reasons we bought our add-on through DVC included:
  • Fast, easy transaction. Points were available immediately after phoning our guide and providing a Credit Card number.
  • Add-on matches existing resort and Use Year.
  • Add-on is closely related to master account alllowing combined totals for banking rules and reservation use.
  • Either original or add-on may be sold if needed.
Best wishes on your evaluation and decision.

Those were our reasons, bought on Saturday, points were showing up on Monday.

Plus we didn't have to go through holding our breaths for the resale to pass ROFR and the 6-7 weeks to close, then the added time it takes DVC to add the resale contract.

For us it was worth the extra money, which we could easily afford(paid cash).

If you purchase more points from Disney they will only sell you the same UY and they will automatically set up the new contract as an "add-on" to your master. It will have the same base contract number as your master contract at SSR, with an ".1" extension. The two contracts will function as one pool of points for banking purposes and when making a reservation. If the add-on is also at SSR, you can pool the points to make a reservation at SSR 11 months from your checkout date. If you purchase your add-on at another resort, you can pool the points from both contracts to make a reservation 7 months from checkout. If you want to reduce your point holdings down the road, you can sell either contract separately.

If you purchase resale and you want the resale contract set up as an "add-on" to your SSR master, you must purchase the same UY and you must make sure the new contract is titled exactly the same as your master. You should make sure your sales person knows how you want Disney to set up the contract and you might want to call DVC as well at the time the contract is being set up just to be sure it turns out the way you want. If all goes well, you will end up with an SSR master contract and a new add-on contract. Otherwise you will end up with two master contracts.

The cost comparison will vary depending on which resort you plan to purchase. With some resorts, resale will be cheaper and with other resorts it will be close in which case I would purchase from Disney. No matter which way you go, you will end up with two separate contracts and could sell either your SSR contract or your new contract in the future.

That was my main question. If I buy through Disney, can I sell the contracts seperately. I seems like the answer is yes.
Thanks!
