Reading Thread/Goals for 2025

#12 The Hunger Games Book #2 - Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

#13 The Hunger Games Book #2 - Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Now I don’t know what to read. I’m emotionally spent at the moment. Trying to decide if I want to read Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Not sure if I have the mental capacity for it right now.

I’m heading to Key West tomorrow so I’m taking a book break until I get back, maybe. lol

I agree... I just finished the book and really liked it! I always liked Haymitch as a character, and I enjoyed learning more about him. I liked seeing some other familiar people from the original trilogy as well. Highly recommended.

10/32 - Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
I am still recovering.

29/104: The Business Trip by Jessie Garcia
Suspense about two women on a plane, one on a business trip, one fleeing an abusive relationship. Then they both disappear but send send texts saying they met the same man. I'm probably not explaining it well but I don't want to give too much away. It was well written and a quick read but the ending was a little far fetched and it felt like it ended abruptly. Still enjoyed it though. 3.5⭐

30/104: The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop (Audio Book)
Memoir about her life in Hollywood and on Broadway with a lot of fun anecdotes and heart warming stories. I didn't know much about Kelly, just knew her from Gilmore Girls and Dirty Dancing. Really enjoyed her story. 3.5 rounded up to 4⭐

I'm going on a cruise this week so hoping to finish a book, start another and maybe finish one I am listening to while relaxing onboard and in the spa.

#11 - A Cry From the Dust by Carrie Stuart Parks
Genre - Mystery
A 19th-century conspiracy is shattered by a 21st-century forensic artist. This is the first book in the Gwen Marcey series. I've added book two to my book list.
26/50…I’ll read the next book too! 4/5

13/30 - Call Me Helene - by Ariel Lawhon - 4.5/5

This book is my favorite out of all the author's books that I read. The story is fascinating. I knew very little about the French resistance during WWII and this book was very informative. Nancy Wake was a key figure in supplying the resistance with arms and funding. I stayed up late trying to finish it, too. I think it helped that Nancy Wake's real life experiences were very interesting.

"Based on the thrilling real-life story of socialite spy Nancy Wake, comes the newest feat of historical fiction from the New York Times bestselling author of 'I was Anastasia,' featuring the astonishing woman who killed a Nazi with her bare hands and went on to become one of the most decorated women in WWII."-- Provided by publisher.

#9/25 Secrets to the Grave by Tami Hoag
Marissa Fordham is dead, but her daughter is found at the crime scene, injured but alive. Now sheriff's detective Tony Mendez and child advocate Anne Leone begin to peel back the layers of Marissa's life. And the shocking truth they discover puts them directly in the sights of a killer with a stunning secret to keep; because Marissa Fordham never existed...
Second in the Oak Knoll Trilogy. Not as good as book one but I will read the next one.

#10/25 This Is Why We Lied by Karin Slaughter
Amazing read! Book 12 in the Will Trent series.
Will not review as some others are reading the series also.

#14 After That Night by Karin Slaughter - This is the second to last Will Trent novel. I just started the most recent one. What will I read after this? I just read about 20 of her books in a row.

11/32 - The Summer Guests by Tess Gerritsen

Description:
"When former spy Maggie Bird retired to the seaside hamlet of Purity, Maine, she settled in for a quiet life with breathtaking views. But enemies from her past soon threatened to destroy everything.

Maggie survived, thanks to her wits and the collective intelligence of the Martini Club, the circle of ex-CIA friends in her cocktail-sipping book club. Their handiwork, however, caught the attention of young police chief Jo Thibodeau. Now Jo and her neighborhood ex-spies have an uneasy alliance.

After a teenager vanishes—and Maggie’s neighbor becomes the prime suspect—she joins the investigation, determined to prove her friend’s innocence. But the girl’s wealthy family pushes for an arrest. And when authorities discover a long-dead corpse in a nearby pond, the case becomes doubly complicated, with unthinkable ties to long-buried secrets.

As Jo grapples with two unexplained mysteries, the Martini Club races to uncover the truth behind shadowy secrets…before more lives are lost."

This is book #2 of The Martini Club series. I enjoyed it a lot, but it wasn't quite as good as the first book in the series (The Spy Coast).

14/30 - Life on Svalbard: finding home on a remote island near the North Pole - by Cecilia Blomdahl - 5/5

I decided to read this book because of a review posted on this thread. The book is a beautiful book filled with gorgeous pictures of this island near the Artic Circle. It is what I would call a coffee table book because it is oversize and has the thickest paper I have ever encountered in a book of this size. The book is fascinating, and I really enjoyed it. :)

With evocative text and spectacular photography, Cecilia shares the joys and challenges of adapting to an inhospitable climate. Her story begins in the darkness of polar night, and the allure of her remote location is revealed gradually as sunlight returns months later. Through personal stories and first hand advice, Cecilia offers insight for anyone seeking to thrive in unusual living conditions.
