Reading an old post by Hydroguy… uncovered queues

I was reading an old post by Hydroguy where he said that he sometimes plays Fastpass runner while his family waits in a queue and joins them later, but only when queues are open air and reachable from the sides, not inside a building.
I was wondering if some particular queues are “uncovered”, so that I can play the same trick. Actually I’m not going to do it regularly, I’m only interested in Alice’s and Haunted Mansion queues because they would be really perfectly positioned in my schedule to do this.
Can you help me?

PS: ok, maybe I’m getting way too obsessive in planning here!:)

Alice is "uncovered. HM is also "uncovered" however if the line is long (and they're using both sides) it will be extremely hard to join your party in line. If they are only using one line it will be much easier.

Rides that are a problem include:
Indy
Roger Rabbit
Splash
Tower of Terror

because the style of the lines makes it so that they don't weave back, making it harder to join your party. Also rides like Peter Pan are so narrow that you may have trouble joining your party.

Man are you obsessive..........:rotfl:

It's a good question. Actually most queues are "outside" (for the most part). Probably it will be better to know where this tactic is NOT a good strategy (I'm thinking Roger Rabbit & Monsters for example).

For HM & Alice (& Matterhorn & Toadie which are next to Alice), this is a good strategy. For example at rope drop:

- PP
- Dumbo
- Alice (a small line while a "runner" grabs a FP.

The HM line is not very exposed. While most of it is outside the HM building, it is hard to reach from the sides. Unless you cut in right before your group enters the HM building, it will be hard to avoid having to walk past people in line and getting someone upset.

On the other hand Alice is 100% exposed and it is fairly easy to step into line - although you might have to step over or under a chain barrier.

Remember me? The Italian girl who must cover DL/DCA in one day? In this situation, as Hydroguy nicely says, one can never be too obsessive in their DLR planning!

Anyway, my DH has given me up: he's decided I must be mad and lets me plan, plan and plan... he expects me to tell him the night before what rides we'll do and when, and that's it for him.

Alby, I was kidding....:)

Of course i remember you. But you're right.....Hydroguy is a nice guy (& the guru for all obsessive DLRers. ;))

Me on the other hand.....kind of smarty dog who's fairly harmless. ;)

(But you need to consider those coasters Alby....especially Splash which is 95% wonderful Disney theme ride & 5% flume ride.)

hound - :cool1:

Alby, I was kidding....:):

oh, I was kidding as well :) . Also due to DH reaction, even I realize that I'm overplanning a bit, no matter what Hydroguy's " new" rule says!
But all of you are so helpful, so why not trying to ask even these small things?

You could even persuade me about those roller coasters.. but then, I wouldn't be able to persuade DH! no way!

So is making your way past people in line to catch up with your party a violation of line etiquette? (Not that we did this, but I saw it happening a lot while we were at DLR this past weekend/earlier this week.)

To tell you the truth we did this alot and others did this to us and I didn't mind a bit, unless its a group of teenagers I don't mind at all. If it's only one person or maybe 2 this shouldn't be a big deal.

It depends who you ask and how blatant it is. My position is that if the line is exposed it is no big deal. For example consider the Matterhorn line. Except for the last 5 minutes, it is exposed and snakes around the mountain. If people let others in their group into line here it does not bother me at all. And we do that kind of thing. But when people pass people in the internal part of the Splash Mtn line, for example, they have to walk past many people saying "excuse me" over and over again. In my book this is a violation of ettiquite - with the exception of the legitimate needs of small children.

I agree, especially considering most of the people who were making their way through lines to catch up with their parties weren't even bothering to say "excuse me" but were just pushing on past people.

And don't even get me started on the people who eat in line and then just drop their garbage wherever instead of waiting to throw it in the trash receptacles that appear fairly frequently along the lines. Ugh...

The only time we ever did this when dh ran to get to Nemo. We stood outside the ropes and politely asked if I could join my husband everyone was pleasant and said "yes of course thanks for asking" There was some people however who were just lifting the ropes and jumping in without asking and I thought that was very rude.
