Read any good books lately?

I just finished Dan Brown's the symbol. if you are a fan of da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, this will not dissapoint. I enjoyed it very much!

I absolutely love it. I was on the fence about spending the $$ on it, but reading is one the things that I do for me. I was always a reader and after
the kids came along I found the only time I read was in the summer months, and then I would read about 30 books in that time frame. Then I kind of got
away from reading, but then the Kindle came out and I wanted one right from
the start but decided to wait. Then this Christmas decided to ask for one from DH. I am absolutely in love with it:love: Not only can I read my fav authors (obviously) but it has opened up a whole new world of authors I never thought I would read just by going to the Amazon site under Kindle books and finding all the free books they offer. The selection is constantly changing so I'm checking it everyday. Right now I have 13 books on my Kindle and I didn't pay for any of them. I've read two books since Christmas on it and I have to admit that for some reason I can read faster on the Kindle.:confused3 And I love the dictionary feature. I'm still sooo new to it and haven't figured everything it can do yet, but am enjoying every minute of it. My DD volunteers at the library and brought home The Help, so I'm reading that in physical form, but feel like I'm cheating on the Kindle:rotfl:
I too have a ton of books, and I'm constantly giving them to the library as a donation. I love the fact I read when I'm in bed and not bother DH. It's small and portable and has a great battery life. I just ordered a cover for it and can't wait for it to get here... you can also visit kindleboards.com and read what others think about their Kindle.

Thank you so much! Do you have the bigger Kindle or the smaller one?

I had a coworker tell me to order a certain version, but I can't recall which one she meant.

One of our hospitals here has a book share. You can donate or take a book. I load books into my trunk and drop them off whenever I have to stop there for work.

The volunteers are always so thankful and I get the giggles because I always feel like I'm the one getting the most out of it as I get rid of those books and have access to new, FREE books.

I will definitely go check out that website. I have some Amazon giftcerts I've been waiting to spend....

I have the Kindle 2 (regular size), the DX is the bigger version and more $$.
Read the reviews on it, you won't be disappointed!

I recommend anything by author Penny Vincenzi, especially the Lytton family trilogy. I think the title of the first book is No Angel.

I'm reading Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens right now; it's a bit depressing but I can't put it down.

Anything by Diane Chamberlain is a quick, engrossing read.

I agree with a PP who mentioned Firefly Lane; it was my beach read this year and I loved it:love:

I'm loving everyone's recommendations and making a list! Added a few to my wish list on Amazon.

I also loved Water for Elephants, The Color of Water and LOVE LOVE LOVE the Stephanie Plum books. I am reading Firefly Lane now and am finding it very enjoyable. I also loved the Mitford Series. They are good, clean books that are suitable for any age. I also really enjoyed Isaac's Storm and The Devil in the White City. They are both full of actual history and very enjoyable. The Fannie Flag books, Welcome to The World Baby Girl, Can't Wait to get to Heaven (or something similar) and Standing in the Rainbow are also very good and easy to read. Enjoy and follow Dr orders for a speedy recovery.

I liked Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.

I also loved this book and Water for Elephants.

Some other favorites:

The Sweet Hereafter by Russel Banks

There is Room For You by Charlotte Bacon

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Wolfe (fun to read The Hours afterwards)

Anything by Alice Hoffman, Jon Krakauer, John Irving, Ethan Canin or Ursula Hegi. I'm also a big Margaret Atwood fan but I think she's not for everybody. David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell are both very funny.

I, too, loved the Stephanie Plum series.

I also read the Eve Dallas (J.D. Robb) books and liked them for a fun read. They are mysteries. Main character is a female cop.

I love reading series, esp slighly older ones so I can read them all back to back.

Oh, and I really enjoyed "The Cat Who" series by Lilian Jackson Braun. If you like cats and mysteries, these are really just a good, fun read.

Sophie Kinsella has a wonderful "Shopaholic" series! It's a must read.

If you like Sophie Kinsella you should read madeleine Wickham. Its actually Sophie Kinsella but writing under another name. Great Books!! I have read all of them!!

Some other good Authors... Emily Giffin, and Janet Green!

i'm glad i found this thread! I've been doing alot of reading lately! i have a box of books i ordered from Barnes and Noble from there holiday sale! i can't wait to read them all!

Two books I found to be very powerful were "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch and "Mistaken Identity" by the Van Ryn and Cerak families. Also, I enjoy almost anything written by Karen Kingsbury.

Everyone keeps mentioning Water For Elephants. I read my junior year of high school and forgot all about it until I went to a museum with a circus exhibit. Then I bought the book and fell in love with it all over again. :goodvibes

A friend let me borrow A Reliable Wife. It was very interesting. I also finished reading my first Nicholas Sparks novel, A Bend in the Road, which I found in hardcover at Goodwill for $1! Also a good read.

I ordered the Kindle 2. I debated back and forth between the DX and the 2.

I wanted something portable that I could carry in my purse.

The Kindle DX is too big!

I also started thinking about how many books I could actually read in my leisure time.

3500 books? Not likely! LOL

It is supposed to arrive tomorrow (along with the gorgeous navy blue leather cover).

I also checked out the kindleboards dot com website you recommended.

It's GREAT!

:cool1: I am so excited for you! You are going to love it!!!! I just finished The Shunning (my 4th book on it since I got it for Christmas!). Check out Amazon's best sellers (lower right corner of Kindle/Books page) for some really good books(sometimes free!). Let us know when you get it! Have you checked out www.kindleboards.com yet? If not go on over there - great folks!

I picked up James Patterson's Sundays at Tiffany's at Barnes and Noble on the sale table...for $5.98 for a hardcover. I read it in 2 days...it was a sweet book! Easy reading, and charming!

I'm now reading Nicholas Sparks' Dear John and I'm liking it a lot. Another easy read, with likable characters.

I highly recommend both!
