How about some of the classics that you've always wanted to read or read long ago? Jane Austen, Dickens, Twain, etc?
Never thought I'd say it - but the Twilight Series.
LOVED Twilight (the first one), disapointed in New Moon, but I'm working on Eclipse right now and I like it a lot.I just read Tuesdays With Morrie and it is fantastic! It had been on my mental reading list for years, but I never remembered it when I was actually buying a book to read. I came upon it by chance and was so happy to find it!
I received a couple of gift cards for Christmas that I am planning on using for books. My next selections will be Precious by Sapphire and The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas.

I ADORE Suzanne Brockmann - her female characters are smart, sassy, opinionated and often NOT perfect, which I love! I started with Hot Target and have read every single book of hers I can get my hands on. Her characters say the things I *wish* I could think of...snappy comebacks and such!If you like romantic suspense (think strong manly men like militaryor CIA with strong women characters) who are fighting the bad guys of the world, I cannot say enough good things about Suzanne Brockman. Her books are each independant though you learn about most of the charcters from other books.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I read it over the summer and LOVED it. It's become one of my all-time favorite books.
Currently reading Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. Already engrossed in it even though I just started it last night. Been reading all morning. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.![]()
Has anyone here made it through Julie and Julia? I borrowed it from a friend, but I can't get past the first chapter. My dh and I rented the movie, and I was hoping that seeing the movie would get me more excited about the book, but so far, I just can't do it! I have this thing about starting books and not finishing them...I HAVE to finish it!! If you've read it, does it get better after the first chapter??![]()
I second Water for Elephants. I finished it over the christmas break and LOVED it.
I'd also recommend:
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
These are three of my favorite books of all time, besides Harry Potter of course!
Nicole
The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I read it simply based on how highly it was rated on Amazon, and was happy I did.
Although I don't "listen" to books, this is great for those who do - so I have heard.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is unbelievable. I am a Nora Roberts reader, but I read this book around the clock.
Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns is also fantastic.

both great books

30f the 4 are some of my fav I will have to look for Ender's Shadow
If you haven't read Ender's Game either, pick that book up first. These two books go together. Ender's Game is through the eyes of Ender and Ender's Shadow takes place at the same time but through the eyes of another character.
I preferred Ender's Shadow more, but it's kind of cool how they fit together. Plus, I might warn you that it is a bit sci-fi and I don't normally like sci-fi, but these were recommended by an avid reader friend of mine and I LOVED them.
She also gave me a tip when purchasing these....buy them in the young adult section, they're cheaperThey've got them in both the adult fiction and young adult fiction.
