"Reach for the sky!" We're finally getting there in JAN 2012!!!TR LINK PG 69!

So close, I can almost taste it!!! Savannah & I have been coloring in our special savings-mickey-head for the tickets, and this weekend we filled it in *almost* to the top! Just a tiny bit left in those ears before I have the money for the tickets!!! :woohoo: $88 to be exact! (basically the tax!)

This is such a big deal to me b/c the rental house is paid for already and I feel like once I purchase the tickets, we really ARE going to make it there this year! I'm SO excited!!!!! :lovestruc We have another one of these mickey heads that I made just for food expenses, and it's even bigger, but I'm pretty sure I can come up with that money, I'll eat PB&J if I have to, but once those tickets are in my hand, there's no turning back!!!!!!! :goodvibes

I love this! I think I will steal your idea and once we tell the kids in June, have them join in on the saving....especially now that we're in major saving mode! LOL

Woohoo, almost there! :woohoo:

LOVE this idea. I'll have to remember to do something like this with my DDs for our next family trip!

Thanks Ladies! :goodvibes I have to admit though that it wasn't MY idea...Hope gave me the idea...not a big surprise there!

I think it's really good to see my progress in savings, it keeps me on track! I also like that it's hanging where the kids can see it, I think somewhere in their minds, it will be more meaningful if they realize how hard we worked and saved for the trip. Maybe it will even give them an idea of how sometimes it take s a long time to save for what you want. My oldest seems to think that if you have to wait more than a week for something, it's a travesty!

That Alice party was absolutely adorable. And the little kitty to go along with the party....lol...how precious! That's great news that you're saving up quickly. The party being a surprise would be amazing. They would be SO excited. I THINK YOU CAN DO IT!!!! And your savings mickey head is great! It's fun to see the money being saved!

OMG, no, I could never keep a whole trip a secret! I'm in awe of you! :worship:

Just yesterday in the car, Savannah said "can't you go 5 SECONDS without thinking about Disney???" :lmao:

I kept our last trip secret. We tried surprising the kids the morning we left for the airport. They didn't really "get" it. Long story.

I was watching TV with DD the other day and a Disney commercial came on and she shouted at the TV, "I've had it up to here with Disney right now! Disney! Disney! Disney!" as she held her hand up to her forehead. I took that as my hint to stop talking to her about the planning. She's in overload and I want her to drop back down to excitement just before the trip. :rotfl:

uhhh...uhm...we won't do costumes (they were hot the last 2 times) and I'll secretly make tshirts! Yeah, that's it!
:rolleyes1

That reminds me, you didn't point me to the proper instructions on how to make perfect Mickey tie-dye shirts like yours. :)

Cute, makes me wish we could save up instead of charging the trip and then slowly paying it off.

I want to teach this to my kids so badly however I also think it's a travesty to have to wait for something. :rotfl2:

Oh I totally forgot!!! Ok, there are instructions that I will link for you, but here's the gist of it...

You baste stitch a mickeyhead onto the shirt. I wish I was good at this, but my friend (the one that took me to WDW on my first visit) is a master at baste stitching and I made her do it each time we do the shirts!

After you stitch the mickeyhead (I'll show you a pic of the outline I draw on the shirt before she stitches it) then you pull the basting stitch until it's tight. You end up with this scrunched up fabric, and you rubberband it VERY tightly, around that pulled tight stitching. Then you lay the shirt on a table and grabbing that mickeyhead part, you twist the shirt in a circle until it spins into a ball (the link I give you will show you better). Then you rubberband it all up, dye the mickeyhead part and cover it with a plastic baggy and then dye the rest of the shirt. It's hard to describe, but this link has pictures!

Here is the mickeyhead I use for the outline. It works best!

Here's some of the shirts we've done in the past couple years! I know we'll do them again this summer. We're going to end up with a shirt for each day with how many we already have!
These are the ones I made last summer before we had to cancel our trip...they haven't even been worn yet!

This is the first set we made in 2008 when Savannah & I went with my friend and her daughter:

Thank you so much! I hadn't seen that thread before. It all makes sense now. I just gotta figure out how to baste stitch. :rotfl:

Pink and yellow tie dye really looks cool! Kind of sad to see all the unused shirts though. :sad1:

Well, if it weren't for Leslee coming on the trip with us, I might not even make them again this summer and just wear the ones we made last year that we didn't get to wear. I want her to have one though, so I figure I'll just make another batch! They'll all get worn, they are our favorites to wear and one of my sons can't stand the iron-ons (says they feel weird) so he'll enjoy having a different one to wear each day! :goodvibes

We  the Mickey tie dyes. Kya and I might make some with you guys just for the heck of it. We both wear ours all the time anyway. :hippie:

Uh...and you have a TRIP you can wear yours at in early 2013! Although we might look like a couple if we are both wearing tie dye mickey head shirts! :lmao:

The shirts look great! Probably not something I could do up, I would be much better with the iron on transfers, I think! LOL

They aren't really HARD to do, but they are very time consuming and very messy. That's why I would make us ALL shirts if I make one for Leslee b/c I might as well, it's not something I would do often! I love the transfers as well, I have a bunch of them planned for this trip! I'm sure you are surprised by that!

 Yes, I'm very surprised!!:rotfl2: LOL
You will have to go on another trip just to wear all of your shirts! lol
Is there a link to a thread that shows about the iron on transfers, where to get, how to do, etc? I've seen photos of personalized ones, but never could find out much about them.

I get my transfers from AmyMickey. She sells them and they work SO much better than any I have gotten in the store! The website is Amymickey dot com! The DISigns I get by requesting them from the DISigners on the DISIGN boards here:

Ooooh... MARsMama, going to the DISign boards is a trip to the dark side. There's no turning back from Disney addiction after that!

Holy Mickey Heads Batman!!! :scared1: Those tie-dye mickey head shirts are AWESOME!

When I first joined your PTR I saw your boys and Rey wearing them, but I thought you had purchased them. I had NO IDEA you had actually made them! It's now time for me to worhip :worship: you! I checked out the link with the detailed instructions...OMG! I can't wait to make some this summer with Caden! Oh how much fun!

I have only ever tie-dyed at places I have worked (the Y, summer camps, school, etc.) or places I have volunteered (The KY Humane Society). I have never actually purchased the dye myself. What kind of dye did you use? The colors in your shirts are so bold!!! I LOVE it! What is the "soda ash" soak? Is it a pre-mix you can buy?
