Re-use dehumidiier water?

Just did a little research and the water from a dehumidifier is considered gray water. Can be safely used for watering plants (although not for any eating plants) and laundry. The things mentioned about not letting it sit are important but it is an interesting thought which I had never previously looked at.

i was thinking about using it for my contact lenses! :rotfl2: (ok, jk not enough left after using it for sinus rinses!) :cool1:

we dump ours in the washer,it only fills to a certain line when washing,so that extra means using less'fresh' water....a win win. DH works A/C and all that stuff for a living, and he told me this.....

we have to empty ours daily, there's no time for bacteria to build up....and it gets washed with soap, vinegar, and dry heat from the dryer,so it doesn't worry me at all.

My grandparents used to do this when they lived in Ohio (and had a basement). They were big on conservation and even reused the water from the washer during the spin cycle! Grandpa had it set up to drain into the basement sink and then flow out to fill the next load of laundry.

WOW! That is amazing!

Thanks for all the responses. I am feeling quite fine about using it as laundry water. I don't believe it to be full of chemicals and I empty it every morning so there is not standing, gross water. Every little bit helps, and with the amount of laundry we do, a little water saved is a good thing!
