? re: The Passion of the Christ (movie)

I read in todays' paper that this entire movie is in Aramaic and Latin. I had not heard this before. So I take it this means that there are subtitles throughout the movie?

Has anyone seen it and can confirm that there is no English????

That is correct, only subtitles. But I know a few people who have already seen it and that said you get so caught up in the movie that you don't even realize it.

Where have I been? Can't believe I missed that. My entire Sunday School class is planning to go see the movie as a group and then have a discussion afterwards. I'm so glad I know about the subtitles - I can warn DH ahead of time. He'll still go see it - but at least he'll be prepared.

My dh and I can't wait to see this. My son goes to a catholic school and the whole school was given free passes to see the movie. This is a first.

AnnaS the whole school( is it high school?)...even Mel Gibson said this is VERY graphic and doesn't encourage young children viewing it.

Yes the entire movie is subtitled. I think it is wonderful. My whole Sunday School class is planning on going and will be able to enjoy it together. And we won't have to go all the way to Broward to see it open captioned.

I am going on Saturday afternoon. And when I think Sunday school, I think "kids". What the earlier poster stated is true from all I have heard...this is NOT for young, or emotionally young children. I am bringing my almost 13 yo son and praying he does OK with it. It is not sit with popcorn and watch a movie either. I have heard of adults being sick to their stomach. This will be something difficult to watch...and I am thinking the best 2 hours ever spent.

I just saw a review of the movie on the 10pm news and the reporter said she had to leave the movie because it was so emotionally disturbing. She said although the movie is VERY graphic (they showed VERY graphic parts of Jesus being lashed, beated and then crucified) she thought it was necessary not gratuitous. She noticed there were alot of people visibly moved and a handful of people left during the crucifixion scene because it was so "emotionally painful" for them to watch.

I would think the movie would be inappropriate for anyone under 13...JMHO.

<font color=navy>My daughter's whole school is going - high school. I will probably watch it with my son - she said she wants to see it the first time with her school.

Yesterday at Mass, our pastor recommended that all adults watch it, and all mature teens, but not the younger ones, or the tender ones because it is so graphic and emotional. He also said to watch it with loved ones for support.

I'm sure I'll have to take a couple of Excedrin & Tylenol sinus before I go, or I'll have a huge sinus headache afterwards.

I just seen it tonight in a sneak preview. Its real Biblical accurate and very violent, I would say 10 would be as young as I would go for a kid.

I guess I need to brush up on my Latin. I haven't used it since college.

My church (Conservative Southern Baptist) listed the theatres in our bulletin on Sunday. We even received literature (tracks) about the movie. The Southern Baptist Association must be endorsing this movie to be viewed by their members. I've never seen anything like it.

DopeyRN, my Sunday School class is all adults except for one 17yo. Sunday School in my denomination goes from the crib to death not only children. We did have several children but they are now at Florida School for the Deaf and Blind and only join us during the summer.

I, personally, do not think that I could sit through this movie. I have a difficult time hearing the Passion read in church. I am a devoted Catholic and very rarely miss mass. I sob throughout the Gospel on Palm Sunday and again on Good Friday. I do not need to see a gory gruesome depiction of torture and crucifixion to reaffirm my faith.

I have also read many articles about the glaring innaccuracies and anti-semitism of the movie written by historians and theologians. I am not enthusiastic about supporting the efforts of a Holocaust denyer who belongs to a sect that was excommunicated from the Catholic churh.

I am sure that I will get flamed for this, but I had to speak my piece.

We had a pre movie meeting at our church on Sunday and this was discussed. Its my understanding that its his Father that holds these views not Mel Gibson himself. The movie is biblical accurate. The example that was used was that if 12 different people saw an event and then wrote about it there would be 12 different points of view and while they will all be accurate, they would still all be told from a different viewpoint. They also said that it was not anti-semitic at all. Both of our ministers have seen the movie and said that children in middle school and higher will be fine with the movie (they are both father of children this age). They also said the movie is less than 2 hours long and the sub titles really don't bother you.

I too hope that people are not flamed for this topic. Its much too important.

I am also one that don't think I can sit through this movie. I can't even sit through a regular movie with violence, let alone one depicting my Lord and Savior being crucified...I get emotional just thinking about it. If I thought I could sit through it I would definitely go.

DH and I already have tickets but won't be seeing it until March 5. I have so many mixed emotions about this movie. At first I swore I was not going to see it. I had problems with paying to see it, as knowledge of Jesus should be free. Also, Hollywood hasn't always depicted events biblically, so I was scared of that and didn't want to expose myself to untruths. But I have prayed about it, and I will go see it. I just hope I can get through the emotions of it. I cry when we just talk about Jesus being crucified knowing that I helped make that happen. To see what it was really like, I know will just tear my heart out.

Here in Indy are local theatre head free sneakpeek for local churches andon the new they were talking about they had ambuloances and counselors and security set up for after the movie and the night news cast talked about someone passing out and needing to be taking to the hospital. Just an idea how bwdit is.
