ok, if he did this for a reason other than profit, why does he not just donate what the movie makes to some kind of charity?

If it wasn't for money, that seems the best thing to do.

Ahh, I see. Well, just because he hasn't announced it to the world, doesn't mean he doesn't intend to do so. There are some that keep there good works quiet, because they are done for purely altruistic reasons and not to get your picture on the front of People magazine.

I agree with doxdogy. We have no idea how much he contributes to charity on a regular basis. We have no idea what his plans are. Frankly, I do not feel it is any of my business. Is there anyone here who would like to post receipts for their charitable contributions? Not me...it just is not anyone's business but mine.

Until he comes out and says what he will do with the money, the movie falls under any other movie in that its main purpose is to make money.

You know Chad...it does not matter to me what he gets out of it. I don't feel used at all. Sometimes people are just called to do something...he was called to making this movie. I am more than willing to accept this. And it is my hope that good will come out of this movie. I will see it. I encourage you to keep your money in your wallet and stay away, so that you will not feel used. To each their own. I just don't like the judgements...

Mel Gibson is an actor/director/producer. Most directors/producers make movies that strike them in some way. They also do so to make money. I see no problem with Mel Gibson making money off of this movie. That doesn't mean that it wasn't a labor of love. After all, he took a big risk. It could have gone the other way and he would have lost $25 million of his own money. If he made a movie that is well done, he should be rewarded. If it gives something back to the audience, that is great. No movie will appeal to everyone. I love The Lord of the Rings. I know many people who hated the trilogy. That doesn't take anything away from it for me.
