RE: Palo

You can always ask the server to pick up the pacing of the meal or that you want to be out by a certain time. The same holds true for the MDR. After the Second night I told our staff to slow it down, we were in no hurry and wanted to linger. (First night doesn't count ebcause it is generally crazy pandemonium anyway) Was not an issue going forward.

Yikes! 3.5 hours?? We also booked 6pm on our last night. I never thought we would be there past 8 unless we were deliberately dragging our feet. I hope that was an anomaly. Otherwise I should cancel our reservation and wait until next year when the kids are a little older.

We have done Palo on both our DCL cruises and plan to dine there again when we leave in a few days. On our honeymoon we wanted the slow dinner so it took over 3 hours. The second time around we had things we wanted to do so we let the server know and we out of there in less than 2. They are great about pacing the meal to fit your needs. Make sure you order your chocolate souffle with you 1st sit down. That takes almost the whole meal to cook.

We have been out in less than two hours at our request never a problem and the service is so good you still don't feel rushed

It's never taken us 3 hours to eat at Palo. I guess we just eat quick but honestly sometimes it's been faster than the MDR's.

I think it all depends on what you are used to, Palo is nice don't get me wrong but IMO it's not really anything more special compared to some of the nicer restaurants in any city, the thing in Palos favour though is the price for what you get comparatively.

Hope you don't mind if I jump onto the thread, but what do you do with the kids while at Palo? DD will be 2, so I hopefully can get her in the nursery, but not sure about DS who is 4. Kids Club? Can I really just leave him? I worry since he is so little. Also how do you feed them supper?

Yes, a 4 year old would go to Oceaneer's Club/Lab. Has he been in a child care situation before?

You can either get room service, go to one of the quick serve locations on the pool deck, or (if you get a reservation opposite to your regular dinner seating) take them to dinner in the MDR before dropping them off. If you go for the last one, be sure to let your server know you won't be ordering for you for dinner that night because you're dining in Palo later.

I'm not sure we've ever been there for dinner for less than 2.5 hours, even just at a table for two. Last cruise our 8:30 reservation for 6 people had us there well past 11.

Holy moly!!! Our reservation was at 8 and I know we were in bed by 10:30 lol.

Palo is completely worth it. The brunch is a buffet, and SO GOOD. Definitely worth the money, easily. Palo dinner was also extremely good. Palo dinner has the most delicious souffle I've ever had in my life. They're known for it. Not to be missed!

Honestly, Palo dinner was one of the best meals we have ever had and we eat out alot. Its a definite must do on the boat and what you get for the price is ridiculous. We are just mad it took until our 3rd cruise to try it!

Our waiter came out with the dessert menus and told us he took the liberty of preparing the chocolate souffle in advance and we were free to try any of the other desserts we were interested in. It was a nice touch

We were just off the Magic in October. We attended both a brunch and dinner at Palo. I found the brunch to be OK but IMHO was a little disappointing. I had nothing that really knocked my socks off. The breads were dry, omelet scorched, etc. The buffet was hard to get to at times as there seemed to be a tablefull of people getting their initial "tour" that blocked the tables.

The wife reported her chicken parmesian was excellent.

Dinner was nice but I've had better food in the MDR. The chocolate souffle was underdone. The grand marnier souffle in the MDR was much better. Tenderloin was good but nothing to rave about. The shrimp appitizer was good but again the MDR out performed with tastier, more tender shrimp than in Palo. Again, nothing really impressed me. It was only OK.

On a side note, while waiting for the doors to open for dinner, it was apparent there was a small disagreement going on between two servers. Subdued but obviously heated discussion. Then during brunch one of the cooks had a rather loud "melt-down". Very unprofessional conduct IMHO.

Palo is a nice break from the more noisy and tighter, closer seating in the MDR, but that was the only real benefit I saw. The food was only OK. I came away thinking I'd have just as nice a meal, quiet and private, by ordering room service.

We have done brunch and dinner. I would definitely do brunch every time but we most likely won't do dinner again. Brunch was WOW but dinner was just good.

I'm just the opposite. I LOVE dinner and I think brunch is just ok. My husband on the other hand likes brunch better because he says there is more variety.

We did Palo Diner and Brunch this summer on the Magic and we (DW and I) really enjoyed it. Diner took just under 2 hours (6pm till just before 8pm) and we didn't feel rushed of bored. Our waitress asked about the chocolate soufflé when ordering the entree, as the soufflé takes a lot of time to prepare. I had it and really enjoyed it. It's just your own pace, so enjoy it.
I'm in the camp that enjoys diner more than brunch as brunch just didn't feel as relaxed. Just my opinion. We spent about 1,5 hours at brunch and saw people seated after us that left before us. I think they had brunch in 45 minutes. Now THAT is a waste as I think Palo should be taken at slow pace and not rushed. If you want a quick lunch, just go to the pool deck :confused3
So, just book Palo, take the time and pace you enjoy and have a blast!
