Have any DVC resorts ever gotten a complete re-model? I mean where they change out the furniture, beds, re-paint, new carpet, new appliances, etc?

I ask because somebody said the DVC is spending all the money on expansion rather than taking care of what they got. Is that true?

There is a reserve fund as part of the annual dues, renovations would come out of that. DVC itself would not be responsible for the cost. I know OKW did a complete remodel a couple of years ago, it was a large project one building at a time, not sure if it has been finished.

DVC dues cannot be used for future expansions. As mentioned there is a reserve fund as part of the dues and that goes for refurbishments. OKW has had all appliances replaced, etc., over the years.

When new construction is made, either at a new resort, or an expansion to a current resort, it is paid for through sales of new member contracts, not thru dues of any kind.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I suppose a resort needs to be refurbed every 12-15 years or so?

Actually, it usually occurs more frequent than that but they don't usually do everything at once; repainting, recarpeting can occur every six to seven years, furniture and appliances replaced when needed or they may replace one or two items all at once (like they did with couches at BWV),

Its usually room by room - for instance, when they replaced the couches at BWV it happened over a year - for a year some units had old couches and some new. And it USUALLY happens bit by bit - i.e. they don't gut the rooms and replace carpeting, repaint and replace furniture. Its also, to the best of my knowledge, never really involved "redecorating" - the new BWV couches have the same fabric as the old BWV couches, bedspreads get replaced with the same bedspreads.

Disney puts a lot of effort into trying to decorate their resorts "timelessly" so they won't date. And doing it this way keeps the maximum number of rooms in service and spreads the cost out over years.

Not only is it room by room, but it is a constant ongoing thing at some of the large resorts like OKW. They tend to do whole buildings at a time at OKW, but when they do it, they do EVERYTHING. Sometimes they just change out appliances or furniture or mattresses.
