Is the Iron Spike Room ever busy or is it always empty or nearly so? When I first toured VWL before we bought, I fell in love with the peaceful look of the Iron Spike Room and have been looking forward to spending many hours there just relaxing with DH, maybe reading a book. Every time I've seen it, it's been quiet. Have I been lucky or is it always this way? Only 23 days til I find out first hand!

Every time I've seen it it's been quiet. Maybe a couple of people there, playing a game quietly or reading, but never lots of noise or chaos.

As opposed to the lodge lobby. My MIL likes to go there to read, but for me it would be too loud and echo-y and there would be FAR too many people there to distract me from my book. Don't get me wrong....I LOVE the lobby at the lodge. Just not for reading.

We love that rm. We were down in Nov. and my wife, 2 year old son and I spent some time sitting and talking about our days activities. The rm. was quiet he hole week we were down there. We think it's one of Disney's best kept secrets. (let's not tell anyone about this so us DVC members can enjoy some time together just relaxing in the comforts o f home) Enjoy your trip.
Nate;)

Agree Shhhhh Keep it quiet or it may end up like the WL lobby.;)
Great place to read and relax.Enjoy:)

Well, the Iron Spike room has never had more than two people sitting quietly during any of my visits (about half a dozen times at different times of the year).
Regarding the lobby of The Wilderness Lodge itself, it is one of main reasons I find the entire Disney World experience so appealing. What a spectacular and warm room. When my wife was REALLY pregnant, we spent the entire day just sitting in the lobby, relaxing, working on our laptops. It's so big that it always seems to absorb most of the noise, and the sound of the water running through the spring at the back is pleasant. I once saw a man propose to his fiance in front of the giant fireplace.
I can shop for pins at the cart a few steps to one side, have a delicious all you can eat breakfast a few steps the other, shop at mercantile on the other side of the lobby, or just spend time admiring the beautiful woodwork and construction inside. Wish it was my house!

The 3 times I have been there it has been quiet. If you want an out of the way place in the lobby of WL, if you look above the front doors there is a sitting area. I have rarely seen anyone sitting up there. You can look across the lobby from up there and it is a wonderful place to sit.

We were there in April and were wondering the same thing! We never saw a soul sitting anywhere in the VWL lobby OR iron spike...such a great place!

We figured it was more of a cold weather hang out-when it is too chilly to hang out by the pool at night.

Is there ever a fire going in the fireplace? That would draw me there in the chillier weather for sure!

No fire in the fireplace, no birds in the bird gage. We go in Dec and would love to see a real fire in there but I don't know if it ever will. If you've never explored the upper floors of the WL lobby,do so. There are two more cozy fireplaces.

Well, it doesn't get much colder than when I was there-WDW was experiencing record cold that day (hovering around 30-35 degrees). That's what I would have thought too-it seemed so cozy there!
