I bought some stuff at Gymboree last week that I thought was cute for my daughter. I bought 2 different size pants and a couple other outfits. I bought these for my mother in law ( i called her and said there is some really cute stuff should I grab it for you and you can pay me later? she said sure-she was looking for a present for her) Well, my MIL decided she would rather put it on her credit card so we were going to return it to my card and she would buy it on her card. So we get there and I tell the clerk what I am going to do, she says ok but you lose your Gymbucks. I said fine. We pick a couple other things out and go up to pay. She says "were these on the floor today? because if they were you can't buy them because we put all returns in the back for 24 hours" I said why? She said its their policy. Some of the stuff I was going to buy was on the floor-but shouldn't she know that? Anyways, I said yes I think some of it was on the floor. She says you can't get it then. My MIL says we aren't asking to get it on sale now if it wasn't when I bought it-charge us the original price we paid. She says she can't. Huh? So I said "fine we won't buy anything then" and walked out. They lost probably $100. Anybody know whats up? I'm considering calling and complaining.

i worked for them in 1999
this was there policy then and alot of other companies i have worked for do this
you cant rebuy things you have just returned but usually it is just to protect people from people abusing the price adjustment policy

you would lose the gym bucks unless you did a exchange
all companies work this way have this promo to but they are called savings cards

I'm pretty sure that is their policy. Although your intention was different, many people play constant games w/prices, sales, gymbucks, etc. trying to take advantage of the system. Not just at Gymboree, but at all other stores. THat's why so many stores, like Target, have put stricter return policies in place. The people who are trying to scam make things harder for honest customers. Gymboree also loses $ with double CC transactions fees on what is, in this case, technically one sale.

That said, I think there should have been some wiggle room for management to help you, esp. since you were willing to give up Gymbucks, were repurchasing on a diff. CC, etc.

If you call, let us know what you find out.

I think I'm a little confused by your post. Were you trying to rebuy the merchandise you returned? If you were, then the clerk was correct in telling you that we do have a 24 hour restocking period. If you found it all on the floor again, you have every right to purchase it. If you found certain pieces on the floor, then you can purchase those. You just can't purchase back what you have just returned.

at my gymboree....as long as it is in a two week window you are allowed to bring things back if they go on sale and get the price adjustment for it...i had no idea i could do this until last gymbuck time and they lady asked me are you getting price adjustments cause she saw me with all my receipts out..so i asked her about it...i think that your sales person was pretty rude to you...regardless of the circumstance..

I will be leaving now to head into my own Gymbucks madness....and I'm sick to boot! Ugh! ;)

This policy has changed on Feb. 21. It is now only 7 days for PA's not 14. Just a FYI!

I, too, work at Gymboree. What the other posters are telling you are is correct. It is company policy that all returns not be put on the sales floor for at least 24 hours. If you can find it on the floor, you can of course repurchase it, but you are not allowed to repurchase the exact item you just returned.

I realize you weren't trying to pull a fast one, but there are unbelievable numbers of people who do, so policies have to put in place to try to prevent it if possible. This is one of them. Since starting in October, I am constantly amazed at the number and complexity of scams people try to pull, not just in our store, but any retailer.

I'm sorry you weren't able to get what you wanted.
Too bad there are so many scammers out there that make these sorts of policies necessary.

Mosmom: I wasn't buying back what I returned, my mother in law was buying back what i returned. I don't care that I lost my Gymbucks. My MIL doesn't care that I lost the Gymbucks. She just wanted to buy what I returned at the same price I bought them at.

Once again, I'm so sorry you ended up unsatisfied in all this. Just wanted to let you know that noone could have bought your returned items...she wasn't being mean or singling you out....just following the rules. I *do* wish she'd found a better way to explain it to you, or offered to post-void your return, letting you keep the items (then your MIL could have just given you a check like you had originally planned).

It just gets hard to keep all the rules straight, especially right now with GymBucks upon us! I know you didn't care you were losing them, but the scams only double when GymBucks are involved, so I'm sure she was just being cautious, as she is supposed to be. Again, I'm sorry you were treated with less than stellar customer service.

Thank you Gymboree people! I'm a little less angry now.
