re-entering the parks

If I don't have a park hopper ticket but want to leave say MK and go back at night to the same park can this be done?

YES. Going into the same park in the same day is totally fine.

Park hopping is "hopping" from one park to another, not leaving a park and going back later in the day to that same park.
