Is it possible to reserve a room direct through Disney, then before the final payment is due, pay with points rented from a DVC member?

Sorry, no it isn't. The "points" room inventory is separate from the inventory of rooms available for cash through Disney. Rooms may be available for points and not for cash and vice versa.

Actually, you are renting the reservation from a DVC member. Points have no value except to a member.

If you are interested in renting points, post your dates & request on the Rent/Trade Board. One of the members with points to rent will check for availability for your dates.

Thanks. I was afraid that was the answer. What I'm trying to do is put off paying for a couple of months (we're selling our house), but I'm afraid that the room I want won't be available then! Sounds like I'm going to have to cough up the dough now so I'm sure to get our reservation.

You might be able to work something out with a DVC member to schedule payments.

My understanding is that most require some type of "deposit" to make the reservation and then will wait until somewhere between 31 and 60 days ahead of arrival for the final payment. All terms of the rental are negotiable between the renter and the member.
