Yes the reps should have helped you more, but I think you also deposited about the time DVC was making the transition from II to RCI and the reps may not have been very knowledgeable.

This is most likely what happened. We asked detailed questions about how to search and stuff, but they didn't seem to have an alternative to what they explained the first time around.

We would have had no problem paying the fee if we knew we could do the ongoing search. Oh well...

New to this whole RCI thing. Question about the waitlist--Can you have more than one? Can I give them a list of destinations and hope that something comes up? We are fairly flexible on dates! Thanks!

You can only have one WL per deposit but that wait list can be composed of multiple weeks, resorts, even locations. I think there's a limit, I know there used to be but I've never seen a limit pose any real limits. Just decide when, where and what resorts you want. ALWAYS be specific and do your research.

I would call Member Services and tell them what you want to do. Make sure you have specific places you want to go to and dates also. I'm not sure what they'll tell you, but I know you have to pay $95 to be on the waitlist. We had a specific place and dates in mind, so I don't know exactly what you need. I do know there is a way to deposit a week in the RCI system which allows you to book up to two years in advance. MS told me that's what most people do if they want a specific resort.

In general I would agree with the sentiment but I definitely would not count on DVC for your research. I'd suggest one decide exactly what resorts and weeks and put in an ongoing search. I think that DVC members tend to make mistakes in this situation that limit their options. Common mistakes are not being flexible enough, not having an ongoing search and not planning far enough in advance. IMO, anything at or after a year is short notice for an exchange. Regarding flexibility, only looking for high demand resorts during peak times (like San Diego) is being too restrictive. Some areas are easy to get, like LV and summer in the Caribbean and MX.
