Hi There,

I am not sure if anyone will know the answer to this, I have just started looking into things recently and came across this board (I am normally lurking on the other boards!):surfweb:

We are members of RCI, our home resort in Collingwood (Canada). We however purchased our time share a number of years ago, and do not own "points"...we own a floating week. Does anyone know if we can deposit this floating week into the RCI pool and in exchange stay at one of the DVC resorts? I am really not very "savvy" in the world of timeshare, so please bear with me!

TIA!:flower3:

The good news: DVC is available through both RCI Points and RCI Weeks.

The big question: Will your home resort have sufficient trade power to pull DVC through RCI Weeks? Unless your home resort allows you to check RCI inventory using "Request First," determining sufficient trade power can be quite difficult w/out first committing your week to RCI.

Suggestions:
a) If you are a member on the Timeshare Users Group (TUG) website, you might want to ask for help on their Sightings board. Perhaps another member with your resort might be able to search RCI's inventory using an existing deposit.

b) If you are already committed to exchanging an upcoming week -- be sure to reserve the week of highest demand from your resort, deposit it in RCI and give it a try.

EDITED TO ADD: You might want to consider renting a week through RCI? Check the section for Vacation Offers for rental availability. Prices are steep -- but possibly better than the uncertainty of trading or buying additional timeshare to scratch the Disney-itch! ;)

Thank you so much for the quick response! Looks like the easier way to do it is to purchase a timeshare with points, and then top up your points with people who are renting on this here board!

Food for thought! Thanks again!

That is currently not the case. DVC is a hybrid working through RCI weeks and RCI points in addition some RCI points time gets transferred to RCI weeks. I'd say at present there has been more options, better value and more units in RCI weeks than RCI points. The one thing that RCI points removes from the equation is trade power. If you have an RCI week that trades through "weeks" but does not have sufficient trading power, it's worthless for DVC. That does not happen on the points side. OTOH, if you happen to have the right trading unit, you will currently be better off on the weeks side for DVC. IF you have a deposit, see if you can see the DVC inventory there. Ask on TUG for those with the same or similar resort and weeks as you have to see what they are seeing. I currently see 110 DVC units on the RCI weeks side, down about 1/3 from the max I've seen. It's much harder to tell on the points side but when I've checked it usually seems to be around 30-40 total.

To have the best shot, you'll want to deposit a summer week---26 through 32 or so.

Actually if the resort quality measures up and they deposit early enough, anything 24-36 should be OK plus a few other weeks including Xmas, Easter, Presidents week and the like. Intrawest MAY be the only one from that area that is in a good position from a resort quality standpoint.

Judging by the RCI Point charts and II demand index for the area, I would not deposit anything other than high summer. Maybe 52, but why risk it?

RCI cares a lot less about resort quality than II did. I don't think that will be an issue. The more likely problem would be if that particular resort bulk-banks.

Not everyone may have access to those times. Certainly weeks 26 & 27 should be the best overall if someone has access to them.
