RCI Trade

The points for each season and accomodation are on the member website, but you don't know what resort has what types of accomodations, or seasons. So you do have to call MS to find that out. I can tell you Manhattan Club is only the high season...red..all year long, and have no studios. So 18/pt. a night for a 1 bedroom is the minimum accomodations there.
You can tell the unit occupancy for both private and total from the website links. The Manhattan club does have studio and 1 BR, not 2 BR units. Did DVC say Manhattan Club was HIGH all year or are you assuming because it's red all year that it is only HIGH season?

MS specifically told me they had NO Studios and all year was high or "red" season. I really wanted a studio.....:confused3

They list studios. It's possible that DVC decided not to allow them but they do show up on the RCI website even when you go through the DVC links. You may want to try again to make sure. You may also want to ask again on the HIGH season. The reason I say so is red and HIGH are not necessarily the same thing. HIGH season is often only a subset of red season. It wouldn't be surprising for MC to be HIGH all year, just that there is a distinction between the two that might affect your choices and costs.

Will do....they seemed extremely confused with all the RCI info and computer upgrades! Will definitely call back again!

One thing to point out is that under II, they could not tell you for certain in every case what the season was going to be UNTIL a match was found. They would give you historical info, namely what it had been in previous years, but it was generally not set until you actually had the match in hand. The truth is it likely is HIGH all year but I wanted to make sure you and others knew that HIGH and red were no where near one and the same. Good luck.

Hi Prinny27, We just returned fron a resort in Sedona using DD points thru,I think, RCI. It was beautiful! Nice studio, (DD stayed first half with ajoining bedroom) we took over while she had to return to work. We were at The Ridge at Sedona. Room was great, with a few repairs needed... Have a great time!
While DD was there, she ended up buying into another time-share that gives her the Disney resort properties. How could she say no.:confused3

I'm so glad to hear this - that's where we're going to stay! I'm really looking forward to that trip. :cool1:

You have it down correctly but there have been several times I'm aware of where people bailed in their own mind but between the time they decided to cancel and they actually let DVC know, they matched. Just don't wait to notify them (or do it by email) if you decide to cancel.

You might want to check your points as it looks like Hilton just had a big deposit with RCI on the weeks side, both 1 and 2 BR units.

Dean thank you very much for the heads up. I will go to DVC website and check my account. Trust me, I will stay on top of this, particularly if things drag on and I get close to the 45 days out point (will check with MS daily on the status of the request). If have to cancel I will do the old "commando" approach I normally use with 11 month out ressies at my home resort (use a speed dialer to start repeatedly calling MS 15 minutes before they open!);)

I'm also seeing multiple 1 & 2 BR units on the points side that fit your needs. I'm betting you have a match already and if not you need to ask DVC why not. Let us know.

What is RCI Registry on the member website? The points are extremely high, even for low season. TIA

It's a subset of HIGH end resorts that RCI has set up in their own little trading group. Interesting that some are also regular II members. I have 2 weeks through RCI for exchange in one of the Registry resorts (not using DVC) for pennies on the dollar compared to DVC.

Thanks again Dean, you're becoming invaluable!! I told MS to look for a 2Br at the LV Hilton Flamingo and gave them three different check in dates I'd accept (7/12, 7/19 or 8/9). I checked my DVC account online yesterday and didn't see any points having been subtracted for a ressie, but I'll check again now. If nothing shows up I'll be in the phone with them first thing tomorrow (here we go with speed dial again :hyper: ) to find out what's happening.

There was a ton of inventory earlier, now nothing so hopefully you got it and the points simply haven't been deducted yet. I had to check the calendar and I see you didn't make a fairly common mistake, that of asking for start days they don't have with RCI. You correctly asked for weeks starting on Sunday. Let us know what happens.

Well, Dean that inventory went somewhere, but not to me :sad1: I checked the DVC website on Sunday night after reading your post, but no points had been moved out of my account. I figured "well, it's the weekend, perhaps things aren't updated until the normal business workweek." I called MS first thing on Monday morning to get an update, again having to go through several CMs until I got to one who knew how to get into the appropriate system to check on my search and see if it had been matched. It hadn't. I've been checking the DVC website several times a day since then, but nothing has changed.

Given what you saw with the inventory coming and going, I suspect it ended up with others in the RCI system who have searches similar to mine, but are higher up in the queue based on their requests having been placed before the beginning of 2009. Hopefully, the ton of inventory cleaned a lot of them out of the line and put me closer to the front. I guess I can only hope that more space opens up as we move through the winter "summer vacation planning" period.

Let me know if I'm not properly understanding the way RCI prioritizes search requests. Is so-called "trading power of the requestor's property" a factor?

There is still a ton of weeks inventory but interestingly it is listed as mostly saturday weeks even though it's listed as a sunday only start resort. Nothing for points however the other two Hilton's have 1 & 2 BR units for at least 1 or more of the weeks you list, also starting on Sat.

Thanks Dean, given the discrepancy in check in days (RCI site linked to the DVC site is also still showing Sunday as the weekly check in day at our targeted resort) this is now potentially becoming a "pioneer" experience. Ergo, being an early user of the new exchange program may be exposing me to some administrative "kinks" that need to be worked out?

Whatever, I will call DVC again first thing tomorrow AM. Once connected to an "exchange advisor" (which I learned Monday is the title for the scarce CMs who seem to have any knowledge of how this whole thing is supposed to work), I will politely inquire as why the RCI system is showing a Sunday check in for resort #3186 while an external check of currently available inventory is only showing weeks that start on Saturday (I'm more than willing to change to the latter if that's all it takes to get a match!!)

And bear with me when I report back on that conversation. ;)

Well, as I said earlier, Dean is indeed invaluable. I called back MS this morning and quickly got to an exchange advisor. I explained to him the discrepancy between the Sunday check in date listed on the DVC/RCI website for the resort I wanted vs. the available Saturday check in inventory Dean had found.

The CM I spoke said he was intrigued by the differences in days and put me on hold while he "looked into this with some associates."

Well, voila -- he came back a few minutes later and said yes, there indeed was the 2BR space I was looking for at my desired resort for several of the weeks I had listed, all with Saturday check in dates. He also admitted that neither he (nor any other advisor) would have caught this if I hadn't mentioned it. He attributed the discrepancy to the fact the program is only three weeks old (i.e. they are still working the bugs out).

I ended up being able to confirm and book my first choice week :cheer2: Not bad - a great exchange reserved only five and a half months out!!!

So again, a BIG thanks to Dean and a moral to anyone else reading this who has or is thinking about putting in an exchange request: ask MS to search not just for dates using the designated day of week listed on the DVC/RCI website but also nearby dates NOT listed. You may end up with same pleasant outcome I just had!

I'm glad it worked out for you and that I was able to help in some small way. This is not the first time I've seen a discrepancy with RCI in start days but it is somewhat aggravating. We'll be there the end of August staying at the Summer Bay resort. You'll have to let me know any hints or suggestions that you find helpful as we haven't been there since 1986.

I was wondering about the ease/difficulty of trading from a RCI Resort into a DVC resort? Has anyone tried this yet? What should I look out for?
