Is there thread that will explain exactly how this works?

Been reading a bit here and there and I am officially now more confused than when I began the research.

Tried finding the basics on the DVC site as well...

DVC is now using RCI as the exchange company for it's World Passport program. DVC holds a corporate membership so all reservations must be made thru MS directly. DVC members can either call MS and see what is currently available for dates you might be interested in travelling or "bank" points into the World Passport system which would give you up to 2 years to make and use the exchange.

The number of points needed for these exchanges is a fixed number based on High, Mid and Low seasons at the individual RCI resort and which "season" applies is decided by the resort itself - members need to get that information from MS. Here are is the current point "costs" to use the program:

So am I correct in understanding that there are literally a few hundred resorts to choose from when making a trade? I have 314 ponts year so it seems like I can do this in high season at any resort? Those points amounts in your post are standard for all RCI trades? Will we get a RCI book with details of the properties?

Do we have a section on the DIS where people can post their experienes with the RCI trade/properties? Might be a good idea.

Are people happy about this new RCI trade? I think it is great....It used to be a poor use of points to trade out with DVC, now it seems like the whole world opened up to DVC owners for a fair point trade!

I don't know that we'll get an RCI book per se, but you can find information about these resorts online at RCI.com and the link I provided above and another great resource is www.tug2.net (Timeshare Users Group) where you can find reviews of lots of resorts.

Many have posted trip reports to various World Passport resorts on DC Mousecellaneous and many also ask questions about specific resort here on DVC Planning. Most of the RCI resorts are new to DVC (since DVC has used II for the past 11-12 years), so there won't be a lot of reports about those here on the DIS yet.

The trade points are the same as they have been for several years now. Just do your homework and start trying as far in advance as possible. Remember that not all of those resorts are available all of the time and DVC members are also competing with other RCI members for the same resorts (just as RCI members are all competing against each other for DVC reservations).

Regarding the value of these trades, the answer appears to be in the eye of the beholder. Many will always feel that the best use of DVC points is at DVC resorts and some have really enjoyed and found value in trying the other options with points.
