Did anyone receive one of these - either as a purchase incentive or, as I did, as a winner at one of the travelling DVC sales presentations?

Were you able to use it?

I'm inclined to write to DVD and tell them just how useless it was! Mine expires in about 4 weeks and despite numerous hours searching for available locations, I just couldn't make it work. I realize, it was free and I should not complain, but they made it such a big deal that I was the grand prize winner.

Just curious how other may have made out...

My DH and I have been RCI members long enough to recognize the "value" of those certs and expressed some surprise when they were offered as a "big deal" incentive item at the Grand California sales event May 2009. Indeed, they tend to under-deliver unless one is hugely flexible with respect to both locations and dates.

I suspect these are essentially bonus weeks and as such, they are only usable for excess inventory or short notice. Places like Branson, off season locations, etc. They are essentially useless for anyone tied to school calendars. It's worse for DVC because Orlando is one of the best places to use them and DVC members are prevented from trading to Orlando. This is one of the situations that illustrate how the DVC trading restrictions hurt members looking to trade.

Interesting to know that RCI can still be as useless as it was for my family back in the 90s. My mom owned there, and tried for a YEAR to get me something in Ireland for my graduation/birthday trip...couldn't get anything. She had to pay for a B&B package through Aer Lingus, as she had promised she would give me the lodging...I paid everything else, but she got me the room b/c of RCI uselessness. They sold it soon after, as the only resorts they had been to were nasty, moldy, with horrible food in gross parts of the otherwise lovely places they went to!

RCI can be very useful used correctly, it's just that the bonus weeks are not worth much for most situations but are very good for some.
