Due to past extenuating circumstances we had to deposit 150 DVC points into the RCI account so we wouldn't lose them. Now we have until the end of December to use them. I've looked at the various exchanges we could do and where we could go but we just aren't sure what we really want to do. Well, yes we do, we want to cruise, but that doesn't seem to be an option. ;-)
Can you rent/transfer RCI points in the same way you can DVC? Would that even be possible if so since they originated from DVC? Do they have the same value as DVC? Just trying to figure out all our options.

No. RCI rules prohibit renting exchanges, and if detected the reservation could be canceled with no notice to anyone and no recourse.

I'm not sure what the current rule is with DVC, but with regular RCI deposits there is usually an option to extend the points for one more year.

You can't rent it but you can transfer to others for a guest certificate fee. RCI has semi officially allowed one to recoup the cost of the exchange itself and the guest certificate fee in the past but not anything else like maintenance fees. You'll need to secure an exchange and travel by the end of Dec if they expire this Dec. Cruising is not an option. I don't believe there's any provision for extension with DVC. I'd make some decisions and put in an ongoing request for something that works for you but realize that much of the good stuff is already gone for this year.

Thank you very much for the replies. I knew it couldn't get me a cruise, I was just hoping I could rent/sell/transfer the points and use the cash instead.

Oh well. Guess we'll figure something out. I was hoping they had resorts in the areas we already had vacations planned to (family related), but no luck.

Sometimes a "down time" vacation is an unexpected pleasure. Perhaps you could find a suitable RCI exchange in an area that does NOT demand much difficulty in travel arrangements (within a 3-4 hour drive from home?), has some onesite amenities (decent pool, fitness center, sauna, game room or nearby hot springs?), allows access to "nature" over high-stress site seeing, etc. Use the time to deeply relax, play board games, read a book, take long walk, attend morning yoga sessions, paddle down a creek, watch butterflies, visit an organic farm, take an online course ... or, if you can, unplug from electronics altogether! Really, these can be truly lovely escapes.

How are you looking? Are you just checking what's available today? If so, that's not the way to get a good RCI exchange.

You need to figure out a nice RCI resort where you'd like to go, and start an ongoing search for a reservation there. Probably the best place to get info on how to do that is the Exchanging board over at TUG. I don't think you have to join TUG to use that particular board.

We were in the same boat this year and decided to trade for an RCI resort in Whistler for July. Plan to give it to my grown daughter to use with her friends since it is a doable drive from Seattle.
I have done a few trades to RCI and have not been happy with any of them. The quality and cleanliness just doesn't compare to Disney. Wish we still had II.
