RCI Properties Not Available

I am trying to book a RCI property for next year with DVC points. We first tried New York City, but in 5 months (Jan-May) there was one 4 day window in early February. We also tried for Williamsburg in April and there was only one 4 day window the whole month. Am I calling too soon or too late? Has anyone else experienced this with trying to book RCI properties? It doesn't seem like a benefit to me.

Hello!

In general it is best to try to book your trip with RCI as far in advace of the trip that you can say at least 1 yr out from your starting trip date.

It is also best to search a wider range of places with a wide time frame available to travel and to search for a week..

For instance example I would like to book anywhere in the carribean during the month of Jan Feb 2011.

This would give you the best chance of finding an available trade.

While Disney states that you can book shorter than one week stays the RCI system with DVC will only let you search up to 10 months out for nightly stays and will let you search up to 2 yrs out for weekly stays.

Thus nightly stays are much harder to book because the closer in to your travel date you are the harder the trade and there are also less RCI properties available to trade with as nightly places than weekly places.

As mentioned, RCI has much of its inventory in week-only blocks. For example, here's what's in RCI Weeks right now for NYC first half 2010. These have to be taken for a full week, you can't break them up:

How do you find out which weeks are available? Also, would it better to rent/trade our points and then find somewhere in NY to stay? We have never rented our points out, but we own BCV and HHI so hopefully one of those would work.
