First, a huge thank you to everyone on this board, you have been so helpful to me and i'm learning so much! That being said, my dad is asking some questions about using points for locations other than in WDW and so i'm headed here to the people who know best!
His question is, if he has some points left over after we plan a family trip, how would he go about using them to plan a weekend for him and my mom to somewhere like Niagara Falls or a beach? He says he doesnt know how to go from the RCI catalog to actually booking with points. Can anyone clue me in please? Also, from looking at older threads it seems like overall the majority of folks think using DVC points for RCI is a huge waste, thoughts? Thank you, thank you everyone!!

Some RCI locations will accept daily/partial week reservations. Most locations are full week only. All RCI reservations must be booked through DVC Member Services, the member can not book directly...DVC has a sort of umbrella corporate membership, where they control the points.

They would need to find an RCI resort designated as RCI POINTS to be able to do nightly stays, and then call Member Services for availability.

In addition to Chuck's info, realize that in addition to the exchange fee, all resorts I know of that actually have partial week stays charge an extra housekeeping fee for the privilege, frequently in the $40-75 range but it's variable. I'd suggest using them at another DVC location or doing a private trade for some other location.

And if you haven't purchased yet and are looking at trading points out for non-DVC vacations, you are correct that it isn't the best use of points.
