Well I tired to make my first exchange with RCI.

we are wanting to take a trip in the summer of 2010. Wanting to stay a little closer to home so we are trying to go to the Ozarks near Branson, MO. It is prime time for this area so not surprised that I got waitlisted.

Personally I don't even think this will come through for us but thought I would try.

It is the Big Cedar Wilderness Lodge. Has anyone stayed here before? It was rated really high on TUG.

I know value wise we may not be getting the best deal with regards to points but we don't really care. It is a short drive and a lot for our kids to do.

I haven't stayed there. It is a BG resort and there are a lot of studios that get deposited for summer. My info suggests that there's not a lot of other deposits but overall Branson is not as high demand as many other prime places. Give it a chance and see what happens. BG members cannot reserve or deposit until 11 months out (with a minor exception), so you shouldn't see any inventory or chance of a match until summer or early fall. If you don't have anything by 9 months from the last week you listed, you should begin to worry. Still, let it ride until 6 months out. You can always add other resorts later. The RCI site is down now (until tomorrow night) so I can't check availability there. However, II has a ton of availability for this summer and I suspect RCI has as much or more. If you haven't matched by your cutoff date, you can add resorts or cancel. Let us know what happens either way.

We went to Branson a couple years ago, and checked out the BCWL. It was a nice place. Shortly after that it was no longer available for trade via II. We were slightly disappointed as this is a short drive for us, if we ever decided to go that route. We actually stayed in their 'hotel' there, which we weren't as impressed with. It was pretty dated. Hopefully you are able to get a trade, but beware I hear this can be a hard place to get into in the summer months....as that's probaly their busiest (prime) season.

Big Cedar was never available through II. It was available at one time through the Concierge Collection.

Thanks for correcting me Dean. It was the CCollection.

And I was JUST remembering that is was just 3 or 4 years ago EASTER WEEK we went. The resort had an easter egg hunt on the lawn....it was a blast, DS had so much fun hunting for eggs with all the kids. They have beautiful grounds right on the water...at Table Rock Lake.

Big Cedar (the hotel) made it to 2006 if I recall correctly. Some would say the timeshare are much better than the hotel. They have recently added 5 BR lake homes to the timeshare (technically a separate resort), a lot of points though.

We are wanting a 2 br at the end of july or first part of August. That is prime time so I'm not too confident that we will be able to get the exchange. Our use year starts in June anyway so worse case is we cancel the exchange and either bank the points for a bigger trip to disney in 2011 or possibly a disney adventures trip or we use our points for a trip later in the year in 2010 to disney.

You'd be better off to bank the points first, you can still use them for the exchange as exchanges are generally paid for with points from the UY of the exchange dates. That way you can make a back up reservation at DVC if you want then cancel for the exchange if it happens or use later for the other options you mention. Getting a private exchange to Branson shouldn't bee too difficult either.
