I'm not sure if this is the correct forum...but is there a fee (service fee?) for booking a stay thru rci? Tia! :flower:

if you book a DVC resort stay through RCI, there is a $95 resort fee (supposedly for transportation - charged by disney upon check-in) in addition to RCI membership and exchange fees.

if you are a DVC owner trying to exchange out, there is a $95 fee through MS but no other exchange fees.

Well, no other fees charged by DVC ... but there may be fees charged by the destination resort.
  • Resort Fee -- covering anything from WiFi, newspaper delivery, parking, etc.
  • Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT)
  • Housekeeping Fees -- rarely encountered for 7-night stays ... but may be levied for stays that are not in 7-night increments.
  • All Inclusive Fee -- often found at MX and Carribean destinations
  • ???

If booking out of DVC it's the $95 fee and possibly fees on the other end which might include a housekeeping fee if it's less than 7 nights as well as AC or utility fees. Many location also have a tax applicable to timeshares. One also move the points from DVC points to reservation points if one has to change or cancel.

If booking DVC through RCI, there's the exchange fee, normally about $209 to RCI plus the resort fee of $95 that used to be called a resort services fee. It's never been for transportation but it's basically used to pay for the exchange system. They'll tell you it's to cover Magical Express, dining reservations and the like. In reality it only covers things that members are paying for already so it's essentially a "because they can" fee. While I think the fee is petty and unreasonable, it's still cheaper than owning or renting directly so it's not that big of a deal. The good thing about DVC from an RCI exchanger standpoint is exchangers get essentially the same priority as owners for villa assignments and DVC consistently gives the unit view/type deposited which can be a win at places like BLT, BWV & AKV. Not that DVC is great with requests but they do OK.
