Ok, I think I'm in the right place. we were forced to put some points in RCI, which is ok rules are rules. That being said, has anyone had any experience booking something near WDW recently, looking for any guidance or suggestions. thanks for the help.

Are you looking to book near Disney or DVC through RCI? Near Disney, my favorite choice is Bonnet Creek. The best place for suggestions is tuggs forum (you need to pay to see the distressed/last minute posts about availability and it is worth it!).

I agree - the Timeshare Users Group at tugbbs.com is great for helping people get the best use of their timeshares. Check out the Exchanging forum at https://tugbbs.com/forums/forums/exchanging-timeshares.12/.

That said, I know that people who own other timeshares within 30 miles of WDW cannot exchange those timeshares directly for DVC resorts. (They can use RCI points from Orlando resorts to trade into DVC, though.) I’m not sure whether that block applies to using DVC points deposited into RCI to stay at other RCI resorts within 30 miles of WDW. I believe you can access the RCI directory through the DVC member website, and you can look for resorts in Orlando. If you don’t see any, that means you won’t be able to use those DVC points to stay in Orlando. I know that DVC members do not have access to every resort that exchanges through RCI.

HGVC Tuscany or HGVC Seaworld is a good choice! (1 or 2 bedrooms).

we've stayed at both via RCI. Very nice. note: there is a $25/day extra resort fee.

Resort fees really annoy me. I understand its likely different here since they can get points being used from anywhere but I find it a very sneaky way to overcharge you. It should be included in the topline pricing of resorts. The only exceptions I give are per person based fees which are for things like food.

DVC charges RCI inbounds $190 per week booked, for no good reason other than that they can. The only thing that gets you vs. any other onsite stay is the ability to call Member Services directly without it being your owned points used for the booking.

I'm usually not bothered by the HGVC or DVC fees, because my total cost of stay is still very reasonable for what I am getting. But, I flat out refuse to book Diamond resorts (which also have nightly fees) in almost all situations, because there are usually others in the area just as nice or nicer without fees.

Edited to add: come to think of it I am also usually okay with the GPR's $20/night. They have some unique coastal California destinations that you can't easily get other ways, and still provide good value in most exchange situations.

We stayed at the Worldmark/Wyndham Reunion a few years back. I believe all units are 3BR. Ours had a particularly good layout for our party of 4 adults, 2 youth. Kitchen was a bit cramped ... but had everything we needed including a nice panty.

There are at least two RCI codes for this property:
  • WorldMark Reunion (#C997) -- which has many units for rent as low as $502/week!
  • Wyndham Reunion (#C409)

Just to throw in another couple of suggestions:

1. Wyndham Bonnet Creek is great. I have stayed there multiple times and have always enjoyed it.

2. The HGV resorts listed above are great and there is another HGV property, called Las Palmeras that is great for the Universal/Disney area.

Best of luck!

thank you al for the great information, it was all very helpful........please all be safe and healthy.

I like Sheraton Vistana Resort or HGVC Tuscany (I-Drive). Those are my off-site go-to's through RCI.

We like Silver Lake. Nothing fancy (we've never been to the pool, so can't say what it's like), but it's almost right around the corner from AK and an easy drive to the other parks too.

I also have a Wyndham timeshare, so I have stayed at Bonnet Creek a few times. Very nice resort, lots of pools, 2 (small) lazy rivers, free (small but fun) mini golf, etc. They also try to match Disney with free entertainment. And the location is great. Of course, if you don't have a car, transportation is a big problem, and if you have a car but no AP, you have to pay to park at the parks.
