RCCL vs DCL pricing help

Try the Magic out of Miami that week. It is pricing out about $1,000 less than the Fantasy..,

Yep it was - we priced that too! But I wanted Eastern ports. The Allure was Eastern but not Tortola. Another reason to go with the Fantasy. I'm picky. :)

Can't blame you there. We, too are soooo tired of Cozumel. We wish lines would do more Easterns (St Maarten is our favorite) and Southerns, but the majority of cruises seem to do the Western...

LOL I guess so!
Good to know, we loved the DCL but would love to give Royal a try sometime too. I have a feeling if we did Royal though, it'd be an adults only, mom & dad trip!
Don't rule out other lines either. While we love DCL, we also have had very good experiences on our Princess cruises, especially where food is concerned. We also really like the laid back atmosphere on Princess. We are also planning on trying one of the Carnival ships with the 2.0 upgrades.

We read all of these reviews about RCCL and took one last year. I think that it may really depend on the ship. We were on the Serenade of the Seas and felt as though there wasn't much of anything to do for the kids. The rock wall was closed most of the cruise and when it was open, they only had one attendant working, which made for a very slow experience. Also, the waterslide was only open for 4 hours on sea days and 2 hours on port days. Not sure why. We also didn't like the Windjammer as it had a limited selection, at least on that ship. Also to note, it was closed from 2 to 6pm and there was no poolside grill or pizzeria. The only open food place at those times was the Park Cafe kiosk in the Adult area that was very limited. So, if you came back on from an excursion, getting a bite to eat could be a challenge. I think that this may be better on the Freedom/Oasis class.

Still, most all cruises are wonderful, so happy sailing!

My oldest, (9yo) claimed to be BORED, and I just don't get how that could happen with all that stuff to do.

Ultimately, you're kind of on your on at Oceaneer's. There videogames and videos. Those are alone activities and can get boring. You have to work to join an activity, which means looking at the info and asking to go during times that there ARE activities. DS was on the slower side of learning to read, which is lucky for him because it meant I would go over (I still do it, because I can't really get used to him reading, it took so long) everything and see what he wanted to do. Then I would make it happen and remind him what he was there for. If he wanted to participate in Get The Hook, we would get him there ahead of time for that and make sure he knew where to join in. That upped his level of enjoyment, because the CMs don't seem to run around talking to each kid individually about upcoming activities.

On Royal, however, you are all interacting together. While it might bug the shy child, who might prefer to sit and color, at least they KNOW what is going on.

My son would hurt us if we tried to cruise Royal without him LOL. We've been on Freedom and Vision and he enjoyed both. We have another Freedom and then Adventure lined up next year, and he's looking forward to both. We saw an ad for DCL before seeing Jurassic World on Saturday, and all it did was make us want our Freedom cruise to come faster! Backfired on Disney there, with us at least, LOL.
