Does anybody have any suggestions of how to get good deals on disposable razor blades or men's razors? My DH and I were going through our credit cards statements last night and I was amazed by how much all his razors are costing us!

..... and mine shaves his head!

There are always coupons. I usually wait until they are on sale and use a coupon. ...and stock up. Also don't get stuck on the gender thing. Sometimes the women's blades are on sale or have a coupon, use them. The pink one shaves the same as the blue one!

I know a lot of folks do the CVS thing, but I am too lazy to shop in multiple places. (not very budget, I know)

Definitely start doing the CVS thing. There are always great deals on razors at CVS (or if you don't have one near you try walgreens or rite-aid). Just a couple of weeks ago I got 24 Bic disposable razors for $1 at CVS (4 packs of 6). Regularly $6.99/pk they were on sale B1G1 1/2 off then I had two coupons for B1G1 Free and two for $3 off/pack - so my OOP cost was 25c/pack. This week they have the Gillette Proglide on sale for $9.99 with $5 in ECB back and there is a coupn for $4 so the cost for the razor will be $1.

DH buys his blades at Sam's, and he says that he can usually get 3 shaves out of one blade. He buys Mach3's, and they are $37 a pkg. Each pkg has 20 blade cartridges, so it comes out to around $.62 a day. Put another way, razor blades cost him about $222/year. He's also picky about his shaving cream; nothing will do but Edge Gel, which is just under $7 for a pack of 3 cans. All in all not too bad for something that he absolutely must do.

Not being the picky sort, I use DH's used blades in my Venus razor, and I get about 4 uses out of each one.

My dad always used a brush and cup with a straight razor. It's a good shave, and a low-cost solution over time, but not everyone has a steady enough hand to use a straight razor. Also, there is NO rushing that shave.

3 shaves :scared1: does he have human hair?? I get months out of one of those blades
The cheap throw aways maybe only a week but still more than 3 days

DH must be clean shaven every day for his job (police officer). So we used to spend $$$ on razors. He used the Gillette Fusion Power ones. $$$! The newest ones are around $17 for 4 blades!! And he refuses to use the cheaper razors because they "tear up" his skin. And they do!

So, he paid $100 or so for a good electric shaver. He does still use the Fusion but only about once a week for a good close shave then uses the electric razor every day. And the electric one should last a while.

Tell him to buy a vintage safety razor and then buy individual, double sided blades at Wal-Mart. Safety razors you can have for $10 or less and blades are about $1 for a pack of 10.

When I used to re-enact WWII, I needed a period-correct way to shave. I started using this method and I've never had a closer shave.

My DH never gets more than 3-4 shaves out of his Fusions. I told him it says on the package "will last 2-3 months". He just laughs and shakes his head. More than that and it tears his face to shreds. Maybe it is different types of hair. He has coarse hair.:confused3

I can't stand any cheap disposable razor. I use a gillette mens razor. Mens is usually cheaper over womens hygiene product. Like deodorants might be the same price, but womens usually contains fewer ounces than mens.

Coupons and sales happen all the time. One time I bought two bars of deodorant for like 2$. The store had a buy 1 get 1, plus I had a 2/1$ off. P&G is usually the ones that do the most coupons for razors/deodorants. Stock up on them, and wait for a sale. I don't really have time or effort to mess with the CVS sales and extra bucks things.

You have to COUPON! Target, CVS, Walgreens always have sales on razors. The trick is to always buy the full razor - NEVER the refill cartridges. Horrible for the environment but great for my budget. I haven't paid for a razor in at least two years and I have about 45 in my stockpile.

walgreen's sells a new brand..Zone...it's a six blade razor. It runs about $6 for the razor and the same for the blades. DH says it's the best shave he's ever had (and he's been shaving about 50 years now!)...he can shave one morning and not even have stubble til late the next day. It's really a GREAT razor. You can sometimes find it on sale for $3.99. I stock up whenever it's on sale.

DH has used a Gillette Mach 3 forever, but our Costco no longer carries the replacement blades. We were sent a Schick Hydro 5 in the mail, and he's been trying it out. So far he's happy and those blades are much cheaper than what his Mach 3 blades were costing us. If he's not picky about brands, your best bet is couponing with sales or CVSing; those buggers can be $$$

I totally agree!!!

My DH will only use Gillette Fusion. We always buy the full razor, never pay more than 99cents oop. Each razor comes with 2 cartridges, so 50cents per cartridge, or less. Like stazmatic, I have a huge stockpile.

There are also many similar deals on the Schick Hydro razors. I get those for a friend of ours.

Figure out what your favorite brand is, let friends and relatives know so they can pass along any extra coupons and then watch for a sale. Before you know it, you'll have a large supply for a small amount of money.:thumbsup2

LOL. Yes, but very thick and coarse. He can grow a full beard in a week, and he has to shave again in the evening if he is doing anything work-related at night, because the 5 o'clock shadow is very noticeable.

Wow... I could see the comments rolling in if he worked at Disney. You can get sent home for a 5 o'clock shadow. I wonder what the managers would do after a 12hr shift...

I've been doing the Clark Howard thing and it really does make a difference. I have also bought refills for my disposibles on Ebay.

You can also buy a razor drier now but I dry and clean mine off with a regular bath towel. I can get mine to last a month or 2 like that, which is good enough for me. The theory behind it is that your beard isn't tough enough to dull a steel blade but the chemicals in your shaving cream and water wear it down and pit it, ruining it. If you clean and dry it you make it last much longer. Disposable razor manufacturers don't publicize this for obvious reasons but it works.

Aug 31, 2007 -- Drying your razor blades extends shelf life

In February 2006, a gentleman called the show and spoke about using the same razor for a year. He revealed that blades don't degrade from shaving, but rather they corrode from the moisture that collects on them once you're done shaving.

He went on to explain his ritual of using a blow dryer to dry his razor after use. His call prompted others to speak up and share their tricks and tips for maximizing a razor's life.

Clark got inspired by the whole discussion (and the expense of shaving blades!) and decided to take a single 17-cent razor and make it last for one year.

He didn't dry his razor with a hair dryer, but instead took the lazy man's approach of just blotting it dry on a towel. It lasted for a whole year and he was very pleased to not have to throw money away on blades anymore.

Recently Clark got a letter from another man who heard the on-air talk about drying your razor and invented a device to do it easily. His invention -- the Razor Pro -- has been sold on QVC and through a drugstore chain.

The Razor Pro looks like a battery-operated pencil sharpener and dries your razor in two minutes. Clark's executive producer, Christa, thinks it can double really nicely as a fingernail polish dryer for girls.

Check it out if you're looking for a way to cut down on one of those smaller expenses that really adds up over time.

I second the safety razor, I bought a safety razor from razorsdirect.com for $25 bucks and blades for $12. I use a badger brush and shave soap. Everything cost me about $40 bucks and its lasted over a year and a half.

I got 100 blades for 12 bucks and have only used 50 in a year and a half, the fact that they only cost .12 per blade and they last about 5 shaves is great but the shaves are seriously so much better than the cartridges.

The shave is so much closer, theres a reason why men used to buy a safety razor and keep it their whole life.

Each shave costs about .05 with the shave soap and blade. Cant be beat. Get the derby blades from ebay or amazon for 11.99 they are way better than the walmart blades.
