I am in the process of buying a bedroom set for my room and was wondering if anyone has every bought from Raymour & Flanigan. They seem to have a lot of bedroom sets on sale with a no interest rate till 2011 and fast delivery.

I really don't know the quality of the furniture. How there customer service is, or really anything about the store.

So all information and advice is welcomed. Thanks.

Hi - The free financing is built into the price. Just offer to pay in cash and see how much the price goes down! Many furniture stores do this.
We do buy from them, they have good selections and really back up their merchandise. We never use their financing. Customer service is what brings we back to them time after time.

Hi!!!

We never use financing either and almost always try to work the price down. Just in the blood I guess!!

We bought a living room set from them back in 1992 or so, and by 1994 it was falling apart. They said that they only warranteed it for a year.

I had to sew the sofa cushions in several places, as the stitching unraveled and the stuffing would come out, and the coffee table legs were wobbly and DH had to use furniture glue on them to stabalize them.

It was pretty junky furniture, I wouldn't buy from them again. And the sales people were pushy. It was like buying a used car in our experience.

My whole house is Raymour & Flanigan. I love all my furniture and it is all in great condition after 4+ years on some of it. Just remember you get the quality that you pay for. Buy a cheap set get cheap quality.

Which is why my house is furnished with Ethan Allen these days. It's costs a bit more than Raymour or Haverty's or Badcock, etc. but is FAR better quality.

Spend $1 at Raymour and get furniture that you toss after ten years.

Spend $1.50 at EA and get furniture that you hand down to your children.

EA has great furniture but I do not want my furniture forever. I like new stuff every few years. I think ten years is too long to keep furniture nevermind keeping it to hand down!!!!!!:confused3

I had huge customer service problems with Raymour and Flanigan in the Wilkes Barre Pa store and with the delivery of my new Sealy Mattress about 2 weeks ago.

They delivered my new mattress set it up and left. Ok no problem. Slept on it the 1st night, said to dh this seems too hard for what we bought. Slept on it for 4 nights and was finally getting use to it.

On day 5 receive a not so nice message on my answering machine from the supervisor of deliveries that they delivered the wrong mattress and needed to give us the correct one.

Turns out they gave us a $1800 Sterns and Foster Mattress and Sealy Boxspring instead of our $800 Sealy.

They were so nasty to us, like we were the ones who made the mistake,I never looked at the new mattress to see that the little tag on it said Sterns and Foster, had no idea. They were so concerned about their inventory being messed up, but in reality even though they did not mention it they were concerned about the cost difference.

After me complaining about the horrible customer service they sent me a gift card for $100 for their store. It has been sold on Ebay. I will never set foot in that store again.

My friend bought a dining room set from them and their customer service was horrible. Things came broken and they were a nightmare to deal with. Because of that I will be going to Macys when we get new furniture.

quality wise - it really depends on the brand -as someone said: you get what you pay for. You can find a wide range as far as quality at R-F, so you can't really make a blanket statement. Customer service wise we have never had a problem.

We have mostly purchased wood furniture from them (large three piece entertainment center, dining room set from Richardson Bros, entertainment hutch, plenty of occasional pieces) - we bought better quality stuff (solid wood, no laminate) and have been very happy.

oh - we did buy some cheap stuff from one of their outlets for a room where we wanted DD and her friends to be able to play and not worry about the furniture (and where we knew the cats would spend time getting to and hanging out by the windows!!) ...it is exactly what we paid for - cheap (laminate coming off, soft wood that is easily marred, etc) - but we knew what we were getting!

we also lucked into a pair of Clayton Marcus wing chairs at the outlet and are very pleased with those as well!!!

I think - as with most things - know what you are buying!!!

have fun shopping!:)

I just had to add that I don't think you always get what you pay for. We bought a La-Z-Boy living room set. It cost a small fortune. We felt that we were paying so much and it should be quality. Well- it is the biggest piece of junk we have ever owned. It is 2 years old and looks like we've had it for 10. Before the first year was up we called the dealer and they wanted to charge us to look at it! Yeah right. They would not do anything to fix it unless we paid. The cushions were flat as pancakes and the couch never laid right. They said it was only guarnateed for 90 days. They were horrible to deal with as soon as they had our money.

I was offered a job with them

Too put it blunty, after one week of training and seeing the practices that I would have to do, I quit

Never buy from them

Run! do not walk away from Raymour and Flanigan. They have the worst
customer service in the state of NJ (just my opinion). We brought a sofa set from them a couple of years ago, definitely did not hold up well and it was in the living room where no one really sits.

Our bed came from there in 2000, our night stands & dresser in 2001.

Our couch, chair & recliner (it is suede like material) we got also in 2000 & believe me it has held up thru 3 kids (5, 3 & 1) & their crayons, pens, markers, throw up, leakage (that would be me), etc...

The desk I am typing at now is from there also I think we bought in 2001.

So far so good.

We have bought several times from R&F. First, if you pay immediately for your furniture they will give you about 15% off the "sale" price. Atleast this is what was offered to us on several occasions. Second, the quality depends on the brand. We have purchased several brands from them. Our kitchen chairs fell apart. They are junk, much worse quality than we expected for what we paid but that is not the fault of the store (same brand sold in many stores). They came and repaired the chairs with excellent service. I love our family room set. It has held up pretty well to the kids abuse.

Our theory with furniture is go higher end for wood furniture we expect to last a long time (EA being one of our favorites, half our house is EA). We go mid-range (usually from R&F) for items we expect to replace somewhat regularly like family room sofas.

I walked into a store in Delaware (N. Wilmington) to look at bedroom sets. I was hounded by *six* salespeople within the first two minutes. I very politely told the first three that I was JUST looking (we were about to move into our current house) and I'd be happy to ask questions once I was ready. Well, after the fourth person came up to me (and it's not a gigantic store for goodness sake, they could see each other!) I turned and walked out! And still I had two more ask if I needed any help...

That experience totally turned me off the entire chain.

I never thought of La-Z-Boy as good furniture. I have a La-Z-Boy sofa in my den. It probably gets sat on for 20 hours a year, and has been used as a sleeper sofa maybe three times, so it's holding up well. But I would never expect it to last as the pirmary sofa in the house for more than a few years before showing major signs of wear and tear.

Thanks for all your replies. You were all so helpful. I have posted this thread elsewhere and it was not getting good reviews.

Time to move on and find another place to purchase a bedroom set.

Thanks again for your replies.

We we didn't think of it as top quality furniture either but we figured it would last about 7 years and then be ready to go. By the first year it looked like we bought it at a wholesale furniture place. We are not hard on furnitre unless you count actually sitting on it. I think the name of the company is named after the manufacturers! Too La-Z to actually make decent furniture.:lmao: We were just really annoyed because their customer service was awful and we spent a few thousand on this set. The throw pillows are even shredding.
BTW- love you siggie!

Having worked for Raymour for 3 years and now working at another furniture store I have very strong opinions. First I truely feel that the saying is true you get what you pay for. There are many people that feel that just because its a lot of money it should be top quality. Just because you buy a brand new car that is a piece of junk and you paid alot does not mean the quality is going to be top of the line.

Also alot of people dont fully understand warrantys. 1 year is standard unless you purchase one of the additional warranty plans which really is just like an insurance policy. Do they want to cover all the claims.. of course not. They make money off the people who buy the warranty and never put claims in. But just because you bought it and its over the 1 year does not mean the company is obligated to do something. This is a long rant and I appologize.

I just truely feel that people need to understand the quality they are buying. There are different tier levels even within the store of different qualitys. THats why the prices are different.

I personally have all Raymour furniture in my home. If you treat it well it will last.
