My husband is a retail manager. 3 weeks ago, he got a new assistant. During the assistant's 2nd week, the store was preparing for inventory and everyone was doing a lot of hard work. He called in sick two days in a row because he was "too tired to work."

My husband's company has a big event coming up this weekend. Peter hasn't had a day off in over a week, and it will be Monday or Tuesday before he takes another day off. The assistant has been working regular 5 day weeks. Yesterday he left after an hour because he was "too tired."

Peter gave him a final warning today. One more event of this nature will result in termination. This guy called the district manager, who backed up Pete. The assistant is now moping around the store because, "no one cares how I feel."

How ridiculous!!!

Give your DH a hug! My DH works in retail too and is constantly having to give above and beyond because of other who don't give enough. Hopefully the assistant will screw up again and your DH will get a better assistant.

It happens everywhere. I used to have a co-worker that would call in the morning to say she was tired and taking a "vacation" day. She would then proceed to ask me if I would take care of several "deals" she had scheduled for that day.

I sympathize with your DH. Hopefully the Assistant will improve.

We've had a few like that over the years where I work. One called in on a payday, then had the nerve to come pick up her check

Her reasoning was that even though she called in, she still needed to go pay bills and buy groceries. Like the rest of us didn't  She was suspended for three days and quit shortly after that.

Well -- he isn't wrong! No one DOES care how he feels! LOL ;)
He will be soon gone.

Geez you guys are mean. What if this person has mono, chronic fatigue, anemia, or one of many other undiagnosed conditions?

careful doc....dernt be the pot call'in the kettle black!

*maybe* the person's LAZY....it's possible!

 He would have been GONE a long time ago, if he worked where I work!

I'm sorry, I need more than a "possibility" before I start condemning people. If you're talking about my being mean on here, I respond to things that people type with their own hands, not a third-hand report.

It sure looks like he's had several opportunities to go to the doctor if he's actually sick.

Where I used to work, we'd get 12 sick days every January. There was one girl who used her's up within 3 months. After that, she'd go to the hospital with her list of ailments to avoid being fired.

Meanwhile, she'd be out partying every weekend.

She finally got canned.

when ever im in the mood to work real hard, I lay down till the feeling goes away

LOL, Jason! Me too!

I know there's a good possibility that this person is abusing the system. It's just that the description reminded me of when I had mono and then was diagnosed with chronic fatigue. And being told repeatedly that I was lazy by people who had no idea... sensitized me to the subject. My last job was also plagued by partiers that were somehow always "sick" on Sunday mornings. But, that was only assumed after a pattern was established. It was too bad that, because of 2 bad apples, everyone else there was accused of the same thing even when they were sick.

3 weeks... yes, long enough to see a doctor. But I know how guys are (and some women). I've had two boyfriends who were sick for several weeks and only found out what they had after I caught it from them and saw a doctor myself.

So, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. Of course, the OP's DH would be the better judge since he can see how this guy is actually acting while he's at work.

I have to admit, when I read the original post, I thought, geez - has this guy gone to the doctor? Now, he may be lazy, but has anyone asked if he's been screened for possible illnesses.

Besides that, I'm sorry that your DH is working so hard and doesn't have the proper help.
