Rates Changes During Stay....Opinions Needed

OK, I need some opinions here. I am thinking of staying at the ASMO in August. My daughter is a huge toy story fan. Anyways we will be going Aug 24 and checking out on Sept 3. Value season doesn't start at the value resorts until Aug 27th. If I book the room now for the entire stay I end up paying 140.00 more since I am paying the regular season rate. OK so now for the question, can I make two reservations one for the 24-27th, and the other for the 27-3rd. Without having to actually physically leave the room and check back in? Also I am a AP holder and am really hoping eventually for a AP code, if I book now can I apply the code when they come out? Thanks for the input.

This has to do with codes and rates so your question has been moved to the codes and rates sub board here on Resorts.

You should make the 2 separate reservations to get the value rate on the 27nd-3rd. Specify on the reservations that you are splitting stay and want to stay in the same room. Never a guarantee that you won't move, but it's fairly unlikely you'll have to for that time of year.

You can modify your reservations if an AP code comes out and rooms are available. Just give them reservation number(s) and they'll do if available. I tend to wait until code comes out before making reservation, just because I figure that it everyone makes reserv. before codes are offered (with expectation that they'll modify reserv. after codes come out), then maybe WDW won't offer a code because the reservations show that the rooms are selling out/demand is strong without a code.

You can make your two reservations to split your stay between the two rates. Kindly ask the CM at CRO to note on your reservations that it is tied to the other reservation. This is no guarantee that you won't have to move, but you might just luck out. Additionally on the day the first reservation ends you'll need to check out, and go through the check in process again -- that'll kill a nice chunk of your morning.

My stay last April 2005 @ the Poly entailed 3, yes 3, rate/code changes. As I've pronouced B4, I'm a shopper and I won't bore you w/ the details. We stayed in the same room the entire time (yes, I know, not guaranteed). Both times I went to the desk to re-check in I planned it around my early morning walk for coffee. No biggee at all. I was the only one there, obviously @ 7 am. You will get new keys, just make sure you throw out the old ones or put them way away, if your a collector. All those KTTK can get confusing. Maggie

I've never done a split reservation...but, I'm wondering if lordmadcow could go to the front desk after midnight on 8/26...say at 12:30am on 8/27 and do the check-in / check-out. I'm sure the line will not be long at that time and the process should go quicker. I would either do that or wake up very early...like 4am...go check-in / check-out and go back to the room and get some sleep.

We usually build in a day for rest that we don't visit the parks or we just go in the afternoon for shows or parades. That's another option for that day.

We've got the same issue - our stay spans seasons, but the change hits near the end of our vacation. I hate paying more than I have to, but I also would hate having to pack up and move to a different room three days before our vacation ends (we are staying 8 days total). We have two kids and at that point in the vacation everything is unpacked and generally arranged between clean, dirty, and a little dirty but can be worn again. The chance that I may have to pack up and move and try to figure this all out in a new room has been enough so far to make me keep from making two seperate reservations.

For those of you who have done this, have you packed up before you went down to check out and check back in again? Or have you waited to see if they were going to make you move and then run back upstairs and pack up quick? Generally once you check out of a room you have no right to be in it anymore. Also what if they make you get out of your room when you check out at 8am and don't let you back into your next room until 4pm. Do you leave your stuff with bell services?

We had split reservations in the past - Poly, AKL, CBR and Movies - I never had to move but they do tell you it is not a guarantee. Every time, the CM at check in for the first stay would verify the continuing reservation. At CBR, AKL, and Poly, I was told up front that I was assigned to the same room for the entire time and they added a note to it to make sure it was not reassigned. CBR even brought the new keys to the room one morning and told me to stop at check in whenever I had a chance that day. At Movies they told me they were pretty sure I would not need to move but I would need to verify it the night before the 2nd reservation.

I think there is a time you have to wait to check in because the computers reset or something but I do not remember the specifics. When you check in the first time, ask them when they think would be a good time. The CMs will know when the day is loaded into the system. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Cheryl

We do split reservation often and you need to tell the CM when checking in. They will try to make sure you don't have to move.

BUT, I want to mention to the OP. When AP rates are released, the All Star Movie Resort is often not included in the discounts. There is a chance there might be an AP rate at the Movies, but in most cases folks have to move to the Sports or Music in order to get a discount. Keep that in mind and be ready to pay full rack rate if you want to stay there.
