Rated R Movie Question

I have a rather odd question to ask . . .

On our cruise last month we saw two movies (Freaky Friday and Pirates of the Carribean). It didn't really occur to me at the time that we just walked in, sat down and watched the movies -- no Cast Member really paid any attention to who was there. This was fine because both times we went as a family, and I was fine with the children seeing the two movies.

Here's my question:

When we go on our next cruise the children will be older, and we'll give them a good bit more freedom. Would they be able to walk into an R-rated movie without our knowledge?

I don't recall anyone checking when I went to see Cold Creak manor(which I believe was R rated). There were many unattended children under 17(teens) but besides being scary there wasn't anything inappropriate that I remember.

Movies with an R rating are clearly marked in the Personal Navigators and are usually only shown at later times during the evening to deter those under 17 from seeing them. However, I have never seen anyone outside of the theaters checking ages.

I very much doubt that anyone checks, although they should, being as they make sure the 3D glasses are there for Spy Kids 3D.

Noobody is there to check, but like threecircles said, they are the late movie at night.
