I'll ignore the special rooms types such as GV, standard view BW and the like.

My preferences are.
  1. OKW
  2. BWV
  3. BCV
  4. VWL
  5. VB
  6. SSR
  7. HH

My interpretation of the general demand for the resorts are much different and something like the following.
  1. BCV
  2. BWV
  3. VWL
  4. OKW
  5. SSR
  6. VB
  7. HH
I'd say the first 3 are very close as are the last 2. OKW is higher than SSR mostly due to the points differential. Everyone will have their list for each group and they will vary. There is no right or wrong answer for personal preferences.
Dean....I think you are right in your ranking of the general demand, though I think BCV and VWL are skewed because of their size. They might appear to be higher demand than actual due to short supply.

Your last sentence is right on target. :thumbsup2

1) OKW (own---love the atmosphere, large room/balcony)
2) VWL (would like points here---love the atmosphere)
3) BCV (would be nice to have access to SAB & F&W)
4) BWV (would be nice for F&W)
5) HHI (seems like a nice, quiet, serene get-a-way resort and would make a nice rest stop on the drive down to WDW)
6) SSR (would be nice to have the extra years. Nothing against this resort, it's just very close to OKW/DD and already own there. Only a boat ride away !).
7) VBR (very nice resort but we already own an offsite timeshare on the FL southeast coast which is beachfront)

What would you buy into if you could do it all over again? quote]

1. BWV- 225 points
2. HH - 150 points
3. VB - 75 points
4. AKL - 75 points
5. n/a
6. n/a
7. n/a

If I had it to do over again, this is how I would split up my points. The numbers above would allow me the 11 month window at the times I like to vacation. Gives me some variety as I am well past the time where I have to be in the parks every day or at Disney for every vacation. I already also own a small contract at BCV, and I'm actually thinking of selling it and buying a few points at AKL, as after I'd visited BCV 5-6 times, the original attractions wore thin and I prefer BWV for location long term- I feel it has more to offer. AKL also appeals to me. I've stayed CL there (on weekends) and enjoyed the resort and the animals. We like to dine at Jiko and we like Animal Kingdom, so a small contract would seem to be a good fit for a visit every 2-3 years for 3-4 days. Vero is also beautiful and a visit around Xmas is my favorite time to enjoy as part of a fall visit to WDW.

Have not been to HH (5/07 is first reservation there!). But our rankings are --

1. OKW - top DVC resort for us (tied with Poly and AKL as top WDW resorts) for style, laid back atmosphere, value, villa size and Olivias

2. BCV / VWL - very different, well executed resorts, with exceptional theming, great locations and tied to fabulous resorts/restaurants

3. VB - similar to OKW in style, very relaxing, on the beach, and not too far from Disney

4. SSR / BWV - for SSR we like the theme, location near DD, great resort to walk around and proximity to Olivias; for BWV we like the location along the "Boardwalk" and reduced point rooms

5. HH -- location too far from the Disney action puts it at bottom of our list, but are looking forward to our first visit

bongo60 says : SSR & HH - two of the most ill conceived DVC Resorts in the worst areas.
Wow, really ? I mean we're all entitled to our opinions, but SSR is within walking distance to DD and has some gorgeous views of that area (particularily at night). Very convenient for people staying there for shopping/dining/entertainment ! :thumbsup2
Not everyone wants to be right smack next to a theme park. It's nice there are some resorts that offer this, but also nice that some are more relaxed and away from the crowds. Something for everyone. Also, there's only so many resorts DVC or disney can build that are next to a theme park. There's only so much room. So I think SSR is in a very good area.
I have heard people complain about the location of HH because it's not beach front property. I guess that is what you're referring to ? But other than that, HH sounds lovely. But we're all entitled to our opinions.

Take a look at all of bongo60's posts (all four of them) and you will get an idea of what credence you should give the opinion.

Aren't old key west and SSR right next to each other. Is there a map that shows any overview of were everything is in location to everything else. I hope that makes sense

Almost, the old Treehouse Villas are between the two resorts.

1. VWL
2. BCV
3. OKW
4. HH
5. BWV

We have yet to stay at SSR, so did not rate it.

They are really close, but they have different advantages - SSR has the extra twelve years. OKW has really big rooms for a value point cost.

When you are going to choose your favorite DVC resort, there are lots of attributes - and some attributes are going to get weighted a lot higher by some people than others. Theming is a good example of this (closely but not completely related to another good example - decor). Some people LOVE the themeing of certain resorts and rate the resorts whose theme they like very highly - theming is important to them. Other people say "who cares about theme - I'm more interested in location (or room size or point value or the pool or whatever....)

1. BWV
2. BCV
3. VWL
4. OKW
7. Tie, HHI, VB and SSR

My personal opinion is that DVC needs more rooms within walking distance of the parks. This isn't what everybody wants, but it is what MOST people want.

I could be happy with any of the top four. I would prefer not to own if it meant owning at the bottom three, as they just don't suit me.

Is this even an option ? Are there still places to build out within walking distance to the parks ? I think the Contemp DVC is an option.....but where after that ? The Poly and GF DVC's ? I'm just really curious what choices DVD has ?

1. OKW ( I don't own here but wish I did)
2. VWL (My kids and DH love this resort and we have points here as well)
3. BCV ( I have points , but have not stayed since a very negative experience--why chance it when I can go to OKW!)
4-8 all the others as I have not tried them out yet!

Rating the resorts is probably impossible for me -- we like them all for different reasons and choose which one to visit based on the "style" each offers and what we want for that particular vacation.

1. BCV still can't beat the location; the Market place rehab has placed this resort back on top for us. Plus, Beaches and Cream is our favorite resort restaurant -- we really enjoy it.
2. OKW love the room size and the community hall
3. BWV only stayed there once, but the great location combined w/the community hall makes it wonderful to us.
4. VWL We've been there once so far and loved the feeling of the lodge; being close to MK was a plus!
5. VB We spent a Xmas and NY's there -- wonderfully relaxing, the Green Cabin room is worth the visit.
6. SSR -- really shouldn't be so low on the list since we have really come to enjoy the resort: the spa is wonderful and having the ability to use the facilities as a member is a huge plus; we really enjoy the Turf Club as a relaxing spot. Dont' so much love the counter service restaurant, but can't wait to try the newer table service one.
7. HH: Both the kids and I enjoy the pace here, but my DH really doesn't. I think it will take a longer visit to feel the magic of HH for him :goodvibes

I don't claim to be the expert that many are on this board, but there are many "walking" locations available.

For example, AKL could be a walking location to the Animal Kingdom, but Disney won't let you walk. I don't understand why.

I have to assume that there is room at MGM for a resort.

I'd love to hear what is north of the Magic Kingdom. Is this land available? If so, there could be two or three resorts up there. Also, there is room between the Contemporary and the TTC for a resort.

Bottem line is that DVC could offer some decent resorts, i.e., within walking distance, if they wanted to.
