So, we had our country fair in town yesterday and had a gorgeous day for it. My daughter was very excited to get her face painted! Today, her skin is red and even looks a bit swollen/rashy.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to help it go away??? She has NEVER had this happen before!

My son is also allergic to face paint. There wasn't any kind of discomfort or side effects, just the rash. I don't have any suggestions on remedies, the rash goes away on its own.

I just left you a message on the other thread but I would suggest some Cortizone cream, I have some sitting in front of me and it says "relives itching with minor skin irriations, and rashes due to detergents and cosmetics. May help ;)

Could there have been something else at the fair that contributed to the rash? Did she touch anything at a petting zoo or eat anything out of the ordinary? Is the rash just on her face?

No petting zoo. There was one but we avoided it like the plague. She didn't eat anything out of the ordinary and yes, it's just on her face. It's exactly where the face paint had been. The other side of her face is perfectly fine.

Forget the Tylenol unless she's in pain. Give her Benedryl and use Benedryl cream on the area.

My daughter suffered from really bad skin irritation a couple of times with face paint. Sometimes they use paint that is actually just acrylic craft paint and not safe for use on skin, especially children's. A friend's daughter got such a bad burn from facepaint that she looked like she had been branded! It was years before the scar faded away completely.

OP sorry to hear your DD had a bad reaction from her face painting.

My DD got pink eye from a face painting artist at a birthday party of a close friend. NEVER AGAIN  That happened 8 years ago when she was 3, ever since I've been completely against the idea of any face painting at a public event.

Good luck to you, sounds like good advice benedryl works on my kiddos when they have itchy rashes :thumbsup2
