"RapidFill" RFID refillable mugs coming back resort wide...

But why only give a 2 hour cup to guests with valid, current mugs? Only makes sense if it's a way to give Disney a chance to do research and determine if the guest is entitled to a replacement mug.

I'm wondering if the 2 hour cup is for goodwill. Sorry you're not allowed to use your old mug. I'll throw it out for you and give your free sods for just this meal.

Most likely this. We know that folks bring back mugs, Disney knows people bring back mugs. I would never give up a mug I paid full price for length of stay for a two hour soda promise, so I imagine most other people would not either. Perhaps it was a nice way to allow people to trade in their mug gracefully.

They are selling RFID mugs before they are being used. No one will have bought a mug that is not RFID and still be using it during their stay. If you go now, you will get an RFID mug, the RFID won't be used until they turn on the system. When they do turn all the system, all the current mugs will already be RFID and will work for the rest of the appropriate period.

The paper cup will only be for old mugs people bring from a prior vacation. Disney doesn't want the mug, they want the mug out of circulation. And it is nice to say; here, have a free soda this time until you get your new mug.

I just got the old mugs on Friday, I wonder if I bring my receipt if they will switch it out. I'd rather have green, purple and orange than the aqua, pink and black.

This information is incorrect. They were selling non-RFID mugs over the weekend (and still may be in some resorts), so there are people that will be caught between the old system and the new system.

Of course...

They wouldn't sacrifice a penny of potential sales...even if logistically it makes sense to shut down the program cold turkey for a month or so to get it across the board

I asked about the mugs at POR on Monday because I bought a non RFID mug last Wed and I was told they were not turning on the system just yet. I wish I had gotten a new one because I have 5 in my family so we have 20 or so at home, but when I checked in on 8/7 they were only selling the old ones. I went over to the BC yesterday and they only had the old ones for sale there but they did have the machines installed there too.

In answer to the poster looking for a picture the RFID mugs still look the same with lids and handles that are orange, purple and green.

I still think the whole thing is ridiculous.

Please excuse my ignorance as I have never used the refillable mug before. I thought that they were only refillable at the resort that you purchased them at, is this not correct? Can I use it at any disney hotel during my stay? Will the chipped version allow for the multiple resort use?

Apparently you can use them any hotel going forward...that's a pretense that wasn't followed much anyway.

The trade off now is they limit usage with a time lock.

The reality is they will be used much less than before...as they eliminated the "splash and dash" approach that is almost a given considering where they are and how much each minute costs the traveler...

I would think they will "bean" the data returned by the machines and come to the conclusion that the prices need to be higher and they're "losing revenue"

Just a hunch.

I always thought the mugs were more like a "service" to the customer for buying a really over priced room...and maybe encourage some additional buying of items...

Guess I was wrong...the margins are never off limits at Team D

Has it been confirmed that there is a time limit between refills?

officially...i don't think so...

but that was how the machines ran in test...if you believe the accounts.

If that's the case then it wouldnt make sense to test them that way if that wasn't the intent.

Now...benefit of the doubt...if they don't have a wait period...then all this did was eliminate reusing of mugs (which is a significant loss i believe because the frequent visitors learn the ins and outs quickly and game it. Everytime i've seen a "i always buy a new mug everytime i go" pointed out too emphatically...the first word that pops into my head is LIAR!!!) and eliminate the rather smallish problem of filling larger containers or non-mugs at the fountains. I've seen that done but very rarely...not a major issue there.

IF...they do two things, 24 hour access and no waiting periods, then i fully support the new system.

IF they do have a waiting period...then i don't like it. I'm not a liberatarian...but i don't like the idea of selling "all you can drink" and then having the machines dictate consumption. If people want to pound...let them pound.

You are dealing with humans and without the refill delay, some would use their mug to fill others. I like the posts that ask which mugs are currently being sold because the poster is about to leave on their WDW vacation and they collect mugs. :rotfl:

Make no mistake about it, mugs and drinks are a multi-million dollar business for Disney and you don't take money from the mouse!

:earsboy: Bill

yeah but see...i really don't think that's that rampant of a problem. I see the occasional person coming in with a random cup or old mug and just walking over and filling it...but that is a minimal problem from my perspective...and i do alot of people watching when i'm there.

I know...i half expect those people to then try to sell me some magic beans or florida swampland :lmao:

no doubt and that is the point. But it looks cheap and budget based on their "above retail" pricing for everything that has gone nuts over the last five years...

it looks like charging the kind of embarassing stuff the airlines have fallen into...fees for carryons...and since disney's food (table service, not really counter), tickets, and hotels have all gone off the charts in pricing the last few years...the mug thing looks really tacky.

If you pay $500 a night for the 1971 exterior entry polynesian without a hot tub....then they should fill a baby pool with coke and let you do backstrokes 24 hours a day in it if you want...

my take

Just read that there is a 2 minute lockout between fills in the POR thread. That seems like a good amount of time. Most people do not drink that fast, but it still hinders the filling and refilling for pouring into other containers.

That is reasonable, I suppose.

24/7 access and more locations would be great. I know that's not exactly part of this system, but the walks from DVC resorts to mug stations are ridiculous sometimes. Putting a station in each cluster of buildings or even each building would make a mug much more appealing. 24/7 access is self-explanatory.

I completely agree with 24-hr access. I think with the RFID system, they should increase availability - both in hours and in locations as well. For example...we usually stay at CBR - how about a station in each village, say by the quiet pools?

While I understand your position, I don't have a problem with a waiting period as long as it is no more than 5 minutes. If it were more than that, then I would have a problem.
