Rapid Refill at the fort?

Have they installed and started the rapid refill system yet at trails end?

I have a good friend going there to check. I am ok with the cups, as I have seen people abuse them over all the years we have been going, but lets hope they come out with the new resort themed mugs!

What is that? :confused3

That's the all-you-can-drink soda/coffee mugs sold at the resorts to use for the length-of-stay. Folks were reusing/bringing old mugs and getting sodas for free (again, did anybody enforce this rule? Were CMs trained how to approach a guest with an old mug and enforce the rule? Did front line managers back their CMs as they should when any challenges were made?).

So to fix this problem they are installing a microchip in the mug that the drink dispenser can scan/read and know if the mug was bought on this trip. It literally won't pour soda if it's not a current mug.

You can guess that drinks (soda/coffee, etc) is a huge profit maker - you know how expensive Disney prices its food and the syrup or coffee grounds are not expensive at all. If it's not at the Fort now it will be soon.

Thanks, Ed. I had heard of the chip, but not the rapid refill. I've never used refill mugs anyway, but some of our grandkids have. There must be some relation to microchipping dogs and cats. :goodvibes Or is that the next great WDW rule, to chip any pet coming on property? :faint:

. . . You can guess that drinks (soda/coffee, etc) is a huge profit maker . . .

1) Especially when you realize that Disney pays ZERO for the drinks.
2) This is part of the sponsorship contract (with Coke as an example).
3) This is also why Pepsi bailed from the soda competition long ago. *
4) They would not supply the soda free to Disney.

* At one time, Pepsi was sold at the parks as a sponsor.

Rock Doc, you okay? Do we need to send an ambulance to your IP address? :confused3

Just lookin' out for my fellow DISsers while I watch the FLA-MIA game, the GA-SC game, and (coming up) the MICH-ND game (which will put me to sleep).

1) It is worse than that !
2) Disney pays NOTHING for the syrup or coffee.
3) Zip.
4) Da Nada.
5) Zero.
6) That is why of a kid drops a soda, we simply replace it free for him/her.
7) Such is the price for being the beverage supplier(s).
8) And, yes, the chip-cups are coming.

NOTE: At one time, Disney sold Coke AND Pepsi at the parks,
but during one contract negotiation, Coke offered the free
syrup. Pepsi would not go along. Thus, Cook is the official
soda. This is not unique at WDW: all the fancy maps and
guides were supplied free by Kodak as the sponsor; GM gives
MAJOR & HEFTY discounts on new cars to CM's as part of their
deal, as does Dell and Lenovo computers; Nescafé coffee is
free, at least until Joffrey's takes over (of course, Nescafé still
has the Billion$ contract for food and supplies distribution for
WDW and DLR. You can see the sponsors pay more than just
money for ads - it takes free stuff.

Wow! I had no idea.....

I remember reading on another thread that only coffee and hot chocolate are available @ FW for the mugs. That's fine for me, but not so much for the kiddos... Does anyone have better info?

I think it comes down to specific locations in the Fort.

My understanding in the past was that the Meadow Trading Post had the coffee, tea, etc but no soda machines. The Trails End Take Out doors (between the HDDR entrance and the TE welcome stand) has the tea, coffee, and soft drink machines IIRC. Some folks have also said the main Pool food stand will give you a soda in a paper cup but since their machines are behind the counter, you can't use your mug (but you can show it to them to get the drink).

If that's not right ya'll feel free to correct me.

Here is our cups from our Sept trip and I am here to tell you I dont care if I ever see a rapid fill cup again!! I complained to who ever would listen to me about these cups. 3 minutes between refills (dont come into the food court thirsty from a day at the parks and think you can fill your cup drink it down and fill it again you gotta wait 3 minutes!!) and if that chip doesnt line up just perfect you wont get any soda my cup would never work with the sprite zero but my DD would and everyone was having the same issues as me so that just took forever to get drinks. One night we didnt have our cups with us so we used the paper cups and I was told 3 refills for 1 hour!! I told the one manager I understand her problem and that I wasnt smart enough to figure it out for her but that these cups are not the answer!! On the bright note the coffee, tea and hot chocolate dont have the chip readers in them!

EDIT::::This was at the POP not the Fort!

We were just at All Star Movies over the weekend and even the paper cups have a chip in them now. You have to set the cup on the holder and a chime will go off, a little screen tells you that you have 3 refills available for the next hour after the time limit the machine won't dispense soda. I looked and there's a tab under the bottom of the cup with a chip.

Exactly right, Bama Ed.. and the Meadows Pool was quite happy to fill us some paper cups when they saw our mugs. they even TOLD some of our party to order a bottled drink with their CS meal, and get the refill with their mugs to drink with lunch. ...That was our first day, and such an amazing meal..

We've fallen in love with what all you folks already know.. the Fort is THE place to be.. and even sold my DH on coming back to Disney some day in the future!!

We're at the Fort now and the Trail's End station has all the sane drinks as last year. Rapid full working OK, at the Meadow pool yesterday they have it in cups as long as we had mugs and just told us to come back in 2 minutes or so.
