Rant: Why can't she just call me back?!

Why can my friend not call me back? We've had plans to hang out all spring break, but she never calls me back. I sit around and waste my entire day waiting for her to call and ask her mom, or clean up the house real quick. She'll say, "yeah, I'll ask." and I'll be like "call back" and she never ever does. There have been times when I cal around 11am and finally get fed-up with waiting about 3pm and call her and she'll be like "oh, sorry, I can't" COULDN'T YOU HAVE CALLED ME A FEW HOURS AGO AND SAID THAT? I don't want to be mean about it cause she's really 'emotional' about little things, like people being mad at her. And I don't want to hurt her feelings and leave to do something else if she actually does call back, which SOMETIMES happens. Makes me wonder if she actually doesn't want to hang out with me. If she didn't though, why doesn't she just lie and say she's busy or she's sick? Meanwhile, she called and said another friend wanted to have a movie night at callbackless friends house and I'm invited. I had to talk to my mom about it and she had to call the other girl, so I said call me when you're done talking to the friend. It's been an half an hour, have I been called? PLUS, to add to the mess, she has yet another friend over that's visiting from Canada. Now, I just called her again and her mom said she told her I wasn't coming and went out. Any experiece with this? Do you think she just doesn't want to do this tonight? Can she not say no? -Lizzie

Maybe next time you try to plan something, give her a deadline to call you back by. And then if she doesn't, go on with your plans. If she complains, tell her, "Hey, I didn't hear back from you, so I thought it meant you couldn't go/weren't interested." People who "forget" to call back like that frustrate the heck out of me, too. So if I didn't hear back, I'd go do my own thing. Once people see you aren't going to wait around from them, the ones who matter will make sure they call you back.

ok, so i called her. she went to get movies with canada girl, the other girl has come.. I said
"you didn't call back, i've been waiting..."
"oh sorry. you still want to come over?" *cough no cough* i didn't do that..
"i'm going to take a shower now. i got tired of waiting for you to call"
"ok, bye"

I had a really good friend who did that too me on a regular basis. I finally had enough. We're no more than aquaintances now. I really miss the close friendship that I had with her at one time, though.
