My old stove is not doing well and I plan to buy a new one. I know that I want a convection oven and I have been interested in the ranges that include a convection oven and an induction cooktop.

Has anybody had one of these? What's your experience with the induction cooking - good, bad, things I should look for?

Yes, I have an induction cooktop range and I absolutely love it. Boils water in 90 seconds and the burners don't stay hot once your turn them off. I have an Electrolux with a convection oven.

The only thing to be aware of is that you have to use certain kind of cookware. It has to be magnetic. So make sure if you need to buy new cookware that you get the correct kind. I have a few pots that I can't use on this stove.

Thank you! I heard that you need to have pots and pans that fit the "circle" where the induction coils are - that if they are too small or too big they won't work. Is that true? Also, does the surface scratch or get marked up easily? Is it hard to keep clean?

I am so glad that I broke down and got an induction cook top. I was used to cooking with gas and in 1986 I had to start cooking with electric. I hated it.

The induction cook top is very responsive. You put it up in temp and it immediately goes up. Shut if off and it immediately goes off.

I picked up some cookware at Ikea. It was pretty nice. But then Walmart had the tri-clad set for a great price and I like it much better.

Carry a magnet with you in case you wonder if a pan will work.

Oh, and I am pretty sure we have saved about $10 a month in electricity with this stove.
Ours is a Frigidaire professional convection oven with hybrid (2 normal burners and 2 induction).
I have yet to use the normal side 1 time and I have had this stove for 2 years.

I haven't had any trouble with the top not working because of pan size. But I do try to use the proper size.

Like I have a large tea kettle that I put on the small burner with no problem. And I have pans that aren't quite as big as the large burner size that work with no problem.

I love that it shuts off automatically if you remove the pan for more than a few seconds.
I don't have one scratch on my cook top, I think it is much easier to take care of than normal glass tops (well, my old ones anyway). Very easy to keep clean.
And the pans seem to take less of a beating on this cooktop.

Honestly, I am so surprised that people aren't buying these but for some reason they have not caught on.

The only negative information I ever heard about an induction cooktop is if you have a pacemaker. There is a warning in the instructions that it may interfere with your pacemaker. Same as a commercial microwave.

We looked at an oven with an induction top when our oven broke about a year ago. We really liked the idea of how it cooked and, especially because we have kids in the house, that the top is not hot once you turn it off.

Ultimately, though, the price of replacing every pot and pan we own helped us make the decision to not buy it. I wasn't willing to have to purchase all new everything when what I own is perfectly good.

Love my induction cooktop! I've had it three years now and no regrets, although like anything, there is a learning curve. I already had stainless steel cookware, so I luckily didn't have the expense of replacing my cookware.

I've never had any problem with size of cookware, although I do try to match it up pretty closely.
